Hi Just,
I am taking Klonopin now for about 6 months. I was taking just 1/2 mg but now due to the withdrawals from opiates (tramadol) I am up to 2 mg a day.
I am not worrying about it now, my doc and I agreed that once I am stable with the opiate withdrawal, we will move to get me off these Klonopins. but I have done it before, and yes, I did it very slowly. I took 1/2 a mg less for a week or 2, then continued like that until I felt really no withdrawals and needed nothing at all.... slooooooow. I'm not even worrying about this yet; I am slaying the dragon of opiates. I will work on the large Lizard of Klonnys later. But glad u are starting your descent!

I would get a doctor working with you on a good taper plan. I tapered Ambien and Elavil. What I found was to go slow, and don't even think about moving down to the next cut until you are totally comfortable on the cut you're on. Don't be in a hurry. The more time you take with this the healthier your CNS will be when you get to the end of your taper. At the end, try to let your body catch up on sleep naturally. What you take for sleep will eventually need to be paid back with insomnia.  Wish you the best of luck!!

Welcome to the forum!  Truly glad you found this forum.....lots and lots of to learn from others here....so much encouragement, support and love.

I have a couple questions after reading what you said.  Did you get your dr. onboard with you before you started your detox?  Have you read much about benzo w/drawals?  You were on 2 mg and say you have cut down by a half a pill each time....but did you do that in just a 4 week period?  I mean from 2 mg to nothing?

If you do an internet search on "benzo w/drawals"....it will help immensely, too.  I found a great site by Dr. Ashton regarding benzo w/drawals.  I was amazed at the fact that regardless how long or how little you ingested a benzo...the w/drawals need to be done VERY SLOWLY.  They are a whole other "animal" from w/drawing from opiates.  I am almost a year clean off opiates....but made the huge mistake of taking a 1/2 a benzo pill everyday for abut 90 days.  It is absolutely amazing to me how much that tiny little pill can affect our endocrine systems...adrenal glands....and tons of other crazy things.

It just sounds like you went from 2 mg to 1-1/2 to 1 mg to 1/2 mg to nothing mighty quick.  It is a proven fact that you MUST reduce slowly.  (I say this to you, but yet I didn't wean myself....cause I thought, heck, I've only been taking a 1/2 a pill (my hubby's) for just 90 days....so no problem)  Boy, was I WRONG.  Well, he isn't refilling his script (our joint decision).....and the pills were gone before I educated myself about how benzo w/drawals differ from opiate w/drawal.

I hope you can do some more reading on benzo w/drawals and if you are still having wack crazy symptoms....you may need to go see your dr. and do a SLOW taper plan.....guess that depends how you are feeling.

Whatever the case.....now you know more than you did.....and that's a good thing, huh?  Hope you'll hang around and share with us.

Blessings to you~

Hi I am glad you are doing a taper. I went c/t from the Klons with 2 other bad meds. I will say it was a different detox this time. Because of the Klons my anxiety shot to the moon. Way worse then the other opiates I have experienced in the past. I know with the Methadone and snorting it with Adderral did not help either..I did not know how dangerous a benzo could be by going c/t from it..Just keep doing what you are doing..It will get better..Maybe get rid of the pills too! You do not want to have to detox off of this animal again just because we think we can take it right..It still has to leave the Body & Brain..This takes time to balance it all back..Keep it up you are doing a very good job!
Bless

Hey, hey! I very minimal experience with benzos. I have been prescribed them for anxiety, but rarely take them. I do know that benzo wds can be awful and even dangerous. Klonipin is a longer acting benzo than say xanax. I really hope that tapering down your dose will save you from the worst of the wds. Check out the Thomas Recipe. There's a link at the bottom of the page. Other than that, just hang in there and stay on here for support. We are here for you! I'm sure someone with a little more experience with actual wds will be along shortly.
