Going not so cold turkey

Hello,
I am happy to take this step for me and my family, but i want to know if im doing it right. Please help! I started abusing percocet 30 mgs about 7 montths ago. I normally do percs every day approx 150 -180 mgs daily. Sometimes if im dry on percs I take 1/4 -1/2 suboxone 8mg. I havent done any opiates in 52 hours but i have taken alot of valiums and smoked alot of weed. My question is that obviously i dont want to be addicted to benzos so im tapering down on the valiums, but is this okay? I feel the w/d in my restless legs, insomnia, stomach pain and back pain but not much else. Im wondering if because i dont feel so agonizingly horrible is it because im not withdrawing right.
I figured i would post my last days using opiates for general purposes.
Wednesday  2 perc 30s then later 1/2 sub
Thursday 1/4 suboxone 6am and 1/4 suboxne 630pm
Friday no opiates
Saturday 1/4 suboxone at 130am (woke up with w/d)
Sunday no opiates
Monday so far at 11 am no opiates.

All of thes days ive taken at least 25 mg of valium and smoked approx 6 joints a day.  I was thinking maybe the suboxone is still in my sys but its been 52 hours. Please give some advice.
Thank you

Your last dose of sub is out of your system in approx 21 days. I think the sub is lowering withdrawal some, but possibly will make the healing of your brain receptors take longer. The weed is likely doing the same, our bodies mostly detox one substance at a time. Percs are out of your system in about 3 days, it is the time waiting for the brain to make it's own chemicals after that. The sub and weed may bring relief, but by masking symptoms with different substances doesn't encourage the brain to start functioning naturally. There is no substance that heals us, only time without drugs can do that. Our tendency as addicts is to find a drug to help whT ails us, counseling, meetings, church, or some form of therapy that helps us find new ways to cope with things really helps. What kind of aftercare do you think would help inspire you to be the bet you there is?

Glad you are doing better!!!! Congrats on 5 days.

BUT you are not going to Balance out in the Brain until you stop putting mind-altering substances in it..I do understand you are in the PHYSICAL part of the detox now..The sooner you come completely clean then you can start this healing process..The physical detox is over in no time and it is actually the easy part..It is WORKING on staying clean that takes so Many Changes and Lots of WORK!! The mental will come in and out as the Brain is trying to balance back. The Mental did not come in for me until around 6-8 months and it was the worse. I got clean back in 2012 and I still continue to balance out, as I get closer to the 2 yr mark.
I would not want you to use a excuse to use a drug when the Mental comes in..It would be better if you start healing NOW! (just my opinion as a long time user).
Just make sure you Eat very Healthy and pick up some good Vit/Min..There are some that will help relax the muscles and help you sleep as there are some that will help with Energy..Even the Vit/Min take time to kick in and work..SO the sooner the better. I do wish you the best that Life can give too!! Hit those meetings as much as possible and try to make it your number one top priority. If you redirect your thinking you will do so much better without the pot & benzo.  Benzo w/d was way worse then my Methadone and other Opiates alone.
Just stay in the  moment and in time you will start to heal!!
Bless

SWIM.
I like that.
I have that too.  The girl who got so brokenhearted and down on herself due to an illness that was beyond control that she ended up married to a man that raped and abused her and then retreated into a pill bottle.
The deeper I get into my recovery the more I accept SWIM as SWUM
Someone who used to be Me.
She's still there, always will be, but instead of loathing her and being ashamed of her, I now embrace her- and forgive her.
I hope you can find this forgiveness for yourself.  It's the only way to be truly free.
Eat a banana.  It was the only thing during detox that helped me sleep.
Wishing you peace tonight...

Your tossing and turning IS the detox, so there ya go: you are getting thru it, yay! I know it doesn't feel "yay" at all, you probably wanna strangle someone at this moment but THIS WILL PASS.

For that jerky, tossing feeling, people on here have said to get Hylands leg relief (I think that's the name.) It's definitely Hylands. You have RLS, restless leg syndrome. But you may know that already.

Also, for me for achy legs (oh man did mine hurt), I swear by ICY HOT. Just roll it on my legs, they feel tingly, but not painful.

Anyway, good job. I'm in LA, so I'm up late if you want to post.

Congrats making the first step! The people on here have great advice. I'm on day 27 and I'm so thankful for this forum.

For immediate relief I take warm/hot baths and just breathe.

Maybe look up the Thomas recipe for some items you can get tomorrow to help with the detoxing

Good luck and keep posting!

Hi there, it sounds like you are getting on the right track. Please keep posting your progress and for support. I don't have much to add more than has already been said above. I wish you well! You can do this!

One question:  What or who is a SWIM?

Weaver, you are right. When i started detoxing i looked at percs (roxys for ppl in FL) like i could mimic the feeling with weed valium and flexerall. I understand this isnt smart and not at all sober
After reading everyones advise and experience i havent taken any valium. I will taper tomorrow after i speak to my pcp.
As far as detox faclilities go : SWIM used to sell these drugs and SWIM cannot  face a room full of people he hurt.

I however intend on going to counciling and being completly honest with my wife about my addiction and cravings.

Hi, the above posts give you great info. Congratulations on wanting to stop. Yeah the weed and vals probably arn't a good mix, they may be messing more with you. Your kind of swapping one addiction with the other. 6 joints is a huge amount of drugs you have put into yout body in such a short amount of time. Your probably prolonging w/d's with the weed. If your looking forward to the w/d's, maybe stop taking drugs. All drugs out of your system will make a successful detox and wont leave you wondering if your prolonging the w/d's. Stay strong and focus on what needs to be done. Take care and keep posting. Well done : )

I totally understand and agree with "drugs are drugs" I just cant sleep and cant eat while w/d and somhow the weed and valiums make it so i can knock out and the weed makes me hungry.
In order to make this detox more successful i will cut down on the weed and also will taper the valium to an obsolete amount. I know this is strange but im looking forward to the symptoms just so i can move on. I just want my life back. I just want to wake up without a hound on my *** and me spending every second of my day running from said hound.
I appreciate the advise and it will be followed.

beware of the weed and the valium!!!  Not a good idea especially the valium at that high a dose.  If you think w/d's from opiates are bad- they are nothing compared to benzo withdrawal.  And as Weaver mentioned- you aren't giving your body and brain time to heal.  The first time I went cold turkey in 2008 I used both pot (in tea form for nausea) and benzos.  I wish I hadn't.  My detox was rough and I never really felt clean.  Within a few months I was back on the opiates for another surgery.  It wasn't until my last surgery in 2010 that I seriously worked at getting sober.  I still had to take the benzos but only because I'd been on them for years and you can't c/t them it causes seizures.
If you want to give your body and brain a chance to heal then please leave the weed.  Use the lowest amount of benzos you can and if you haven't been on them for a length of time, taper them off as quickly as you can (must do this with medical supervision)
I promise you will have more clarity and strength if you surrender to the detox process and do it with as little mind altering substances as possible.
Wishing you well...
