morphine withdrawal

I have been taking 60-100mgs of morphine daily for years. I have not had any for almost 48 hours. I am not well. I do have access to Vicodin. Will the Vicodin just prolong the withdrawals?  Please help!

The vicodin will prolong the withdrawals. Your body simply converts Vicodin into morphine, chemically there's little difference in most opiates. Strength and time release is the main difference. You're not at an extremely high dose and morphine is fast acting, so it should leave the body pretty fast also. You're 2 days in, hunker down and wait it out. You'll start feeling better in a few days. Vitamins, minerals, and amino acids help a lot. Immodium is good for the stomach issues and exercise helps with the rls. Stay focused on a sober future and time will heal you. Congrats on a great decision and 2 days toward a new life.

it's monday, alot of the good folks on here have recovered enough to be at real jobs, right now.

today is just gonna be minute by minute.
take an over the counter pain med.
take peptobismol, others prefer imodium.
get in the bathtub.  with epsom salts, preferrable the cheap walmart one with spearmint, i don't know why but the spearmint really helps.
drink lots of water, stay near the toilet.
you need something for mood, cravings and anxiety, everybody on here has their favorites, mine are supliments, cigs and gabapentin

Ask me any questions, I didn't want to overload you all at once with remedies.

i'll check back shortly to see how you are doing, maybe someone else will start posting soon.

Hang in there, days three and four are usually the worst, gets a bit better on day five and your fairly clear on day seven.  Have you lined up aftercare?  Cut all sources of narcs?  Telling your secret, cutting sources and aftercare are the keys to staying sober.  Congrats on getting clean, hang in there, and keep posting.

if you have to go to an ER they will probably give you ativan or xanex and tell you the same.

ER's are noted for "EMERGENCY FIXES" just to heal the moment NOT LONG RUN FIXES that you really need.

Expect to be uncomfortable for a while longer... withdrawal is temporary, only those first few days it won't feel like that.  But the symptoms do get easier to handle as you move forward.

1.over the counter sleep aid that is the same stuff as benedryl, it is also in tylenolPM.  nyquil also makes a sleep aid.

2.definently use the vitamin & suppliment isle product called "Melatonin"

3.get another suppliment for restless legs, brand names depend on what store, but should be near the meletonin, GOOGLE restless legs supliments

4. alternate peptobismol with imodiumAD, eat a bannana

5. drink, drink, drink

6. google up a website like [url]http://www.1channel.ch/watch-9594-The-Big-Bang-Theory[url/] find reruns of sitcoms you have already seen.

7. take a towel to bed with you, i had to, and extra pillows to change

8, halls sugar free menthalated cough drops to keep your mouth from getting dry

again, there's but ask away

One day, one hour, one minute and even one second at a time.  This feels awful, I know.  But it will get better if you hang in there.. take a hot shower, go for a walk, read or watch some mindless TV.  ANYTHING actually to take your mind off of all of this.  But honestly, I couldn't get out of bed for days and it was miserable.  But it passed.  And it will for you too - you just have to believe in that AND more importantly, believe in yourself.

What are you doing for aftercare?  Do you have a support system in place?

Sounds like an NA or AA meeting would be perfect for you.  Right now, you're going to want as many supportive people around you as possible.  And the last person you want around you, or in your life right now for that matter, if your dealer.  You have to cut ties with that person immediately, if you haven't already.

Made it through the day. Drinking tons of water. Absolutely no appetite whatsoever. Very emotional and hurt from head to toe. Positive side?  No morphine for almost 4 whole days.

4 days and counting, that is a positive note. Can't eat? Get yourself a protein drink high in amino acids: ensure, spiru-tein, muscle milk. Keep drinking that water. And I agree about AA/NA, it really helps. You're making it, keep doing what you're doing. You have this thing.

I cannot quit sneezing!!!!!  Is this a side affect and if so, how first I make it stop?

Yes it is a side effect.  I have never had it but many do.  I feel a sneeze coming on and it passes and I wish I could sneeze.
I hope someone comes along to tell you how to stop it if it's possible. Keep blowing your nose and see if that helps.

Good morning Christi & Pat

yes sneezing is a side effect.  benedryl or methalated stuff might help with that as well as other symptoms.
