The antidepressant in tramadol is an analogue of effexor which is generally accepted as being the hardest antidepressant of all to withdraw from because of the long half life of its metabolites.

Add an opiate agonist to the mix & no wonder people are trapped.

The added twist is that no-one takes 5 times the recommended dose of their antidepressant but with tramadol, you get the tolerance factor so that some end up on mega doses which increases the build up of metabolites & the time it takes for the drug to truly clear your system.

What a party.

Yeah, it's called Serotonin Syndrome and can be deadly. I saw someone on ER die of it once. ER is also where I obtained most of all of my medical knowledge :)

Tramadol is a freaky drug. It's marketed as a non-narcotic because it's not chemically alike to traditional opiates. However, it acts on the same receptors in a similar way to opiates. Therefore, for addiction purposes, it's treated as an opiate. I also read a paper recently that said that it's mechanism of action is alike Trazodone (an old school antidepressant). This certainly explains the extreme depression after cessation. So, Tramadol works like an opiate and an antidepressant in one drug. It's no wonder it's a hard drug to withdraw from!

Let me change that to nothing addicting. tramadol is what is called a synthetic analgesic it is very addicting and work very much like the other opiates as well as having an ingredient that has anti depressant qualities.
