A little story about what will be round the corner

Hi,I had been addicted to pain pills for 5 years and I would just like to give a bit of an insight in why it is so good after the detox and withdrawls.I separated from my gf for obvious reasons.I lost my home and could no longer bathe, read stories, tuck them in every night because the consequences of me rather sitting here high not listening, non responsive, caring about myself every night. Now after all that I decided to cold turkey, now I'm not going to go through the symptoms and advice because this is readily available on many posts from many great people.I read and re read that what I was feeling is like many others and that alone is so liberating. Some of you on here don't realise that you are an inspiration. Now after maybe 2 wks of detoxing I started to hear my daughters clearly, vocabulary, facial expressions,I had the energy to play with them. They have actually noticed I smile now instead of the blank expressions.I realise birds actually sing near me bcos I havnt heard them for a while. What I am saying is its a damm tough and listen to people who advise on physical and mental aspects but these little bits of life I have noticed are all because of reclaiming my life.Hope to each and everyone of you

You expressed the sober life so point on!! Isn't it great!! Every time here lately i have a craving ( after 57 days) I think back to these first feeling were i actually noticed these things & the first "real laughter" i shared with my kids. WOW what a amazing feeling it is & that alone ( not including all the other bad stuff that comes with the addiction, & death eventually) is why i make a choice to stay sober! Living life like Sarah said feel's so much better than just existing!!! Congrats to u!! Stacy

Well I agree with everything except for the bird part.  The birds are driving me crazy.  They start chirping at about 4am and don't let up until the traffic noise drowns them out.  I have killed more birds with my imaginary gun than I care to count.  The rest is all good though lol.

It is very cool to be even a month out and see the changes in our world. I too remember the birds singing and thinking...WOW. Another cool thing was as the brain was healing so were our bodies. Hair and nails got strong again, skin evened out and got the moisture back, weight dropped off without trying, and many other bodily changes occurred. We forget how much we lost on those pills. Reflecting is painful, but necessary too I think.

I love post like these. By the time we decide to quit using it is usually because our lives have become unmanageable. All we want to know is how long and how bad till this is over. We don't realize the bigger picture and hidden benefits of losing the pills. Thanks for sharing and congratulations for reclaiming your life!

I always like to hear about one's awakening from the chemical mask that we've been wearing. The return of sharpness and clarity is amazing. Those pills slowly take that away without us knowing. We never appreciated this clarity before pills because we never lost it, it was just normal life. When we get it back, how sweet it is and it must be guarded and never allowed to be taken away again. Thanks for your story, it reminds me of the return of my senses and my natural self, it is a wonderours time, good for you.
