Did you go Cold turkey or Taper?

As I've just decided that I cannot taper any longer and that I need to go cold turkey (hearts beating) I just wanted to ask for some other people's choices and how it worked for them.  So if you don't mind answering I'd appreciate it. also if you wouldn't mind sharing your drug of choice and how high your dose was. As I feel my dose is up there a bit (up to 200 or a bit higher of oxy).
I'd appreciate hearing any of your experiences...

I did c/t average150mg lortabs a day sometimes more(also taking6-8mg xanax,somas.I c/t of the tabs+somas1st).Then tapered the xanax.It sucked but by day4-5 I felt SOOO much better(worse was day3).Im an addict+thought tapering was just a slow,drawn out w/d+I honestly couldnt do it also w/c/t the w/d was much faster.I used name brand immodium,clonidine,benzos n as small dose as possible.Then I weaned off the xanax(was taking6-8mg daily4years so thats awful slow.w/d)..I think the amino acid protocal,thomas recipe items+clonidine will b enough.Dont trade this4another addiction(I wouldnt do methadone,suboxine,subutex etc.)THERE A MILLION TIMES WORSE2COME OFF OF.GOOD LUCK

i tapered down to zero twice
went CT too many times to remember

in the end i quit eating (and snorting) pills by getting stuck on the end of a crack stem.  can't say that i'd recommend that to a friend (or anyone else), but it did bring everything to head, so to speak, and in a way that couldn't be hidden from anyone.

i crashed and burned in a big way, but it was exactly what i needed to bring me to the point of surrender.

it was also what i needed to convince me that relapse would kill me.

I made an excel spreadsheet with a reasonable taper. The times and pill amounts were all laid out and I stuck to it - putting myself into mild withdrawals for 3 weeks. This was not fun but not too dramatic - either way you will pay on the back end. There's a price to be paid for every addiction...
Good luck and God bless-

@deedee, Tapering sounds so good especially after you pop a few pills and get confidence but the truth is in my opinion Cold Turkey is the only way to go and is by far the fastest and quickest way. My drug of choice was Norco and I took around 50 pills a day. I have done the rehab thing and the home thing when getting clean and I will tell you this, the less pills you are taking the faster and easier the cold turkey will be. For example, in my addiction I would wake up in the morning and reach for the pill bottle and from that first dose, it set off, and I would from there take doses every 2 hours to catch that first high,, so what I did was I would wait all mrng day and evening without taking a pill until 9pm came around and I was on deaths bed I would finally pop like 8 norco and then 3 hours later at bedtime would pop another 8 right before I slept so I could sleep. By doing this for a week it brought my 50 pill a day habit down to 16 AND the best part my body eventually got used to not taking pills in the morning, afternoons and evenings. From that point I just went for it, and cold turkeyed and buckled up for the 3 days of hell. Just do whatever it takes to get past that 48hrs cause on the third day you will rise again. Direct msg me if you have any questions in regards to meds that ease withdrawls or just want to talk or whatever. Im here for ya.

I did a 3 day suboxone taper when I went to rehab. That was after a 1g/day IV heroin habit, or if only oxycodone was available 6 of the IR30's iv/day. But ive gone told turkey many times off several different opiates, including hydrocodone hydromorphone fentanyl oxymorphone oxycodone and heroin.

Most of the time when I tried to quit on my own I went cold turkey. I always preferred enduring the withdrawals no matter how intense they were, in exchange for getting them over with in the shortest amount of time. In my experience with oxycodone, the withdrawals always lasted about 10 days until I felt relatively normal. The only difference that tapering ever seemed to make, for me, was in the intensity of the withdrawals. But like I said I always seemed to prefer dealing with a short but intense withdrawal as opposed to a long/drawn out slightly less intense withdrawal.

I tapered for 9 months. Fioricet (barbiturate) up to almost 30 tabs/36hours for a LONG time. It took years to get to that dose and I was so very good at it...it about killed me!

I've been clean for nearly 18 months.

This type of drug HAD to be tapered. I did it very slowly and the withdrawal was really nothing. The mental struggles...well...that's a whole other game and you best get some help with that...I had a lot of help and still do although my recovery care has evolved in different ways over time.

I wish you the best!

I tried so many times to taper. I was taking Vicodin, 5/500 or 7.5/500. Pill amount ranged anywhere from 18-30 per day depending on how many I had.
Day 21 here! You can do this one hour at a time!
