I believe everyone is so very different on the "coming off" part with sub. For me it was not even noticable when I cut my dose in half. I have been using Suboxone for 2 yrs. (wow) and was started on 24mgs. I was down to 2mgs a day (after 1 yr and some) then I relapsed. Now I am back to 16mgs a day and taking my time going down. The way I see it, anything is better than going back to the life I had before. If you do it very slowly, you will have minimum WDs. Make sure you have people that support you around during these times, that will be helpful too. Good luck

I too have heard alot of horror stories. I have also heard some success stories. Fron what I can gather. The ones who got off pretty easy did have one thing in common. They took it very very slow on the taper. They would very slowly ween down to basically 1/2mg a day and then would take that every other day. Then every 3rd day and so on up to 5 days between doses and then quitting entirely.

Good luck to you. The faster you can quit the better. Just be careful cutting your dose to fast. Just do what your body tells you and it should work out. To fast of a jump and you will have withdrawls. You can however just take some more sub if that happens. Try taking 2mgs at a time and see what happens. If you are comfortable, work from there.

I am aware that getting them off the streets is not a good idea, but because i have no other means of getting them, it's either get the subox off the streets or try to kick the habit cold turkey in which i know will fail,  ive tried it and couldn't last more than i day with the wds.   Since i started the subs i can't explain how much more alive i feel . It gives me hope.  I almost forgot how it felt to not be on pills.  I just wanna get off the subs as fast as i got on them.  The thought of ever having another addiction makes me sick.  I now know that nothing good comes out of an addiction.

One thing i must say is that a person who has never been there, will never understand! I have a brother who has an addiction he won't admit it but he does. For years we have been trying to help him kick the habit but we have failed. Before my own addiction i never understood why he couldn't just stop.  I understand completely now.  It takes over you.  Ive thought bout opening up to him about own experience in hopes that maybe he 'll relate more to me  and maybe some how i can help him.  but i thought i'd wait until i completely rid myself of the addiction.

Do not cut your dose in half. That would be like taking 15 vics a day and dropping to 7 a day. Lots of withdrawl symptoms if you do that. I don't think buying them off the street is a good thing to do either, just for this reason alone.
If your taking 8 mg a day what I would do is cut that 8mg in half and then in half again and drop down to 6mg for about 3-4 days. Then drop to 5 mgs a day for 3-4 days or more if you need too. Drop 1 mg at a time and give your body time to adjust. Sub has a long half life and it take 48 hours before you feel the effects of your dosage drop. If you drop to fast you will end up going right back up. You can use a razor blade or buy a pill cutter from walgreens. You can cut that sub pill up into very small pieces to get your dose down to a half milligram if you have too. Slowly taper down and you will have very little w/d symptoms. Just remember, two days to feel the effects from your drop in dosage. When you get to a really small dose start spreading out the time in which you take it. Something like 1 mg every other day then a half every other day. Then every two days and so on until you don't need it.

Hey if your jittery and having headaches you are probably taking to much sub. After one week on sub I was taking 4mg in the morning and 4 mg in the afternoon. It will take a week to two weeks to find out where you are really comfortable on it. However, if you are going to quit in two weeks then that does'nt really matter. I really thing 8mg a day is enough to stabalize at,. atleast for the next couple of days and then see how you feel. It took me 3 weeks of trial and error to find where I was comfortable.

Hello Everyone,
I was wondering if anyone can tell me what would be the best way to taper down the subs.  I recently started taking subs because the opiats wds were absolutely insane and I coudn't deal with it.  The thing is i have absolutely no insurance and i know this probably isn't the right way to go, but i know someone who has subs and although its not my prescription i thought it be better to takes the subs from someone else than continue getting high.
I really do wanna stop I just don't have the stregnth to do it cold turkey. So it will be 1 week exactly tomorrow since i last got high.  The thing is I really don't want to grow a dependancy for the subox either i want to rid myself completely and forget this ever happened.
During the past week I'm actually starting to feel like myself again, but every so often throughout the day i crave for it, but i quickly remember why i wanted to stop in the first place. The hard part is no one knows about it, the only person who knows is the person who id get it from. so it makes it too easy for me to wanna just make a call a get it.  I'm sorry if a i'm babbling but it helps me not want to do it.

Can anyone tell me how to taper down.  I am taking 8mgs of subox a day literally every 24 hrs.   I thought that I should cut the mgs in half evey 3 days . Does anyone have any suggestions? I'm realy really scared to have ne withdrawls so i havent reduced the mgs.

Before a started the subox i was taking about 5-6 roxis a day so im guessing that should be 120-150mgs a day.  Im not really sure if thats alot or what.  I kinda just got caught up but im no expert , 1 thing i do know whether its alot or not the withdrawals are unbearable.

I thank you both for all of your helpful information,  I was taking 30-40 norco or vicodin a day depending on the strength of them.  I thought that if I was on suboxone for only a week then I could just stop and be fine I guess I am wrong, that ***** but I'll be fine.  I really wanted only to take until I got over my opiate withdrawal because I have read about all the addiction stories to suboxone.  I guess there is no easy way out, I just have to bite the bullet and do it.  I am tired of all the lies and "double life" because my husband doesn't know anything.  I should have been in jail from all the "doctor shopping" I have done over the last 3 years.  I just want to be a good wife and mother again. Suboxone gives me really bad headaches and makes me feel jittery anyway.

Well for starters the doctor will not know if you drop your dosage. Dropping your dose is a good idea. What you will notice is that it will take 2 days before you notice the drop in dosage. So don't drop to much each day. Maybe try something like this. Try dropping 1mg every 3 days. Take 6 mg today, tuesday and Wed. Then take 5mg Thurs, Friday and Saturday. Then take 4mg Sunday, Monday and Tuesday and so on until you get down to 1mg and then keep tapering that one mg down to nothing. Go about 3-4 days between your dosage drops. This gives your body time to adjust to the lower dose and y ou will have an easier time with the w/d's. If you can stand to take less then do it but remember it takes two days before you will feel the drop in dosage because of the long half life of suboxone. The sooner you quit the better. Three to four weeks is all you want to be on it.
I have been on it for right at 4 months now. I have been able to break the cycle of wanting, craving and thinking about pills all the time. I have had pills come into my possession and not been tempted. I owe this to the suboxone. I am tapering my doses right not but very slowly. I have been on a long time and its gonna take an equally long time to quit. I think the key  to sub withdrawl is, however long you are on it is how long it will take to get off of it. So far I have not had any problems and my dose is half of what I maintained at for 2 months. My life is back to normal at work and home. I hate taking it but if this is what it takes then it is what it is. I wish I would of done a 3 week taper but I probably would of relapsed. I took pills for ( I think ) over five years with many attempts at quitting only to relapse every time. Everybody is different. If you can stop the sub in three weeks then by all means do it. Good luck, hope this helps some, hope I didn't confuse the hell out of ya, I'm kinda rambling here. LOL

The dose you are on is very very high.   You must have been on a very large dose of Opiates for the doctor to prescribe that much.   From my experience, sub should be dosed by your own body.  Allow yourself to go into mild withdrawal again - then take one or two mg and wait 30 minutes - if that works then stop there -- if you are in severe w/d then take another 1 mg.  If you continue to take the large dose you are on, the w/d (when you do decide to quit) will be horrendous.  If you do continue on Sub then I would recommend you take it to taper off as quick as you can.  You can determine how much you need by seeing how much it takes to ease your pain.  There will be some suffering as you wean off -- you must be willing to go through it.  It will feel like cr*ap but it will get better after a few days.  keep posting  - that helps.  All the best.

I am taking 16mg a day, it started with 8mg first day, then 12mg second day, and now 16 mg.  If I take less than prescribed for next 2 days like 8mg each day, will the doctor know?  I mean it will still be in my system right?  I don't want to tell this doctor that I am going to stop taking it because she wants me on it indeffinately.  I have a feeling it's all about the money for her, believe me you can tell.  Thank you so much for your prompt response I greatly appreciate it.

Yes Irish,  You can (and probably should) quit after only one week.  I stayed on Sub for 3 weeks and tapered down to a small sliver and then quit --- I should have done it sooner --- Sub is extremely addictive and will grab you so quick that it becomes very very difficult to let it go.   There is no danger from quitting Sub -- only some W/D symptoms but those will be much much worse if you stay much longer on  Sub.  All the best. Sorry I didn't see your questions about Sub earlier.

Irish you can quit after one week with minimal withdrawl. What I would do is taper down to nothing over the next week. How much are you taking right now and how often.
