Failing to plan...is like planning to fail

I've been thinking a lot about this. Especially after reading some posts in the last couple weeks. And I feel like I need to share this one little bit of wisdom.

Failing to plan, is like planning to fail. When you make a commitment to sobriety, faith and hope alone will not get you through...no matter how much you'd like it to!

You must make a plan for your aftercare, you must make a plan to delete those contacts and cut your sources. You must make a plan to tell your dirty little secret. You must plan activities with ppl that do not trigger a desire for your DOC. Make a plan to do things that make you content. There are so many things that come into play for this one little thing called sobriety.

I see so many who think they can just stop and that's the end of it, but that's very very rarely the case. I wish it were that easy, maybe there would be a lot more ppl who succeed at this if that were true. So anyway, I don't really have a question or anything, I just wanted to share that in hopes that it may help someone, even if it's just one person. Have a great evening MH friends. :):)

When people reach out to me, the first thing I say is, "let me get to know you so we can form a plan." I am a form believer in having a plan. My plan was a really bad one, wouldn't suggest anyone do what I did, accept the part about sticking to the plan. No matter how bad a plan, if we stick with it, it will work. Thanks for your share, I really relate to a lot of what you said.

Very solid point of view! I am only clean 11 months, but I still review my plan every day. I read a lot here and from my other aftercare I still think a lot about how well I am on track (or not)
I view my sobriety in two ways. There are parts I feel are rock solid, but complacency and triggers have blindsided many, so every day I am thankful when the day is done and I climb into bed once again clean and clear headed.
I really like the idea of a "winning plan," because I agree with Sweetness91 and send thanks for the reminder to all!

I have No room to talk. I'm only 11 days off subs and am n recovery from 7 yr addiction. What I can say while I was tapering. As corney as this sounds. I mentally put myself n place where I reminded myself I was a warrior! Laugh but it's the truth. MIND OVER MATTER! While detoxing for 1st few days, I was only watching warrior type movies lmao. 300, soul surviver, documentary on navy seals. Etc. u get the point. Mind u I had practically zero wds this whole time. Be cuz I jumped off Medes so low. But IMO it has A lot to do with how 1 thinks. If I felt the minor wds I'd tell myself it wasn't there and they'd go away. Of course til they came on full time then I'd dose. But those little things add up. Just sayin  thinking positive worked for me. Never use words I "can't" more like tried. Or I WILL beat these demons and WHEN I do..... Watch out!!!
