I am scared to death of detox

To anyone who has advice,

Long story short, I got my self into the predicament of having no money to pay for my 2 year long methadone maintenance program, so my parents have agreed to pay for it as long as I go through a detox program soon.  Now, being that they don’t know much about methadone, their idea of “detox” means checking my self into a clinic where I go from 165mgs/day to 0!  They don’t understand the tapering process.  My mom and I are going to see the meth. Doctor this Thursday, but it’s not going to help because my parents don’t trust the counselors and doctors anyway.  If I do end up having to go through detox without tapering, what should I expect?  I’ve gone through two days without it and it was HELL!  I got through it but I don’t know if I could do it cold turkey for good!  Please help prepare me for what is coming!!!!

Thank you for you response ang_811 and tramhater.  I appreciate you guys taking the time to talk to me about my problem.  I don't have time to tell you whats going on with me right now but I will later on tonight.

If you go into a hospital or a place where they do medical detox, you will be ok.  Even if they drop you fast, they will give you meds where you will be pretty comfortable while you are there.

You have to get aftercare when you get out though.  I went to a BUNCH of rehabs over 14 years of drug use, and when I got out, I refused to get support, so I always relapsed.  Don't make my mistake!  

If your mom isn't going to listen to the doc, there is really no need in her going with you, right?  Maybe you should talk to her before the appointment, and reassure her that you are trying to do the right thing.

Can u have ur parents come on this site or maybe do some research of their own! Maybe once they talk to ir doctor and listen to what he has to say maybe they'll umderdtand? That's a  really dangerous and high dose to jump from. I do not recommend it. I tappered down 10 mgs of methadone and experienced bad wds even when I was still dosing.  Will U be under a doctors care when u get off the methadone?
