Day 4 of detox from oxycodone.... This seriously *****!!

I've been using oxycodone for the past 6 years. 40-50 MG a day, all day long. The RLS is about to push me over the edge! I was prescribed clonidine and it helped at first, now not so much. I've taken benadryl, melatonin, nyquil, pretty much anything I can get my hands on to knock myself out. Nothing is working. How much longer will this last?? Please help!
Thank you!

If you see someone in an NA meeting just know that HELLO they are also in the NA meeting. It is called narcotics anonymous for that very reason. Whatever happens at a meeting does not leave those rooms. Remember you and anyone in there are trying to recover from using a substance that can and will destroy your life. But there are other ways besides NA that people have used. I just know that NA worked for me. I kicked methadone, OxyContin, MScontin and Valium over 3 months ago. I would have been dead or in an institution without this site and NA. NA is safe and they get what we are going through.

I know exactly how you feel! Except they're my husband's pills and he uses sparingly and as much as I wish to God they weren't in the house, I just keep telling myself that this is all my fault! I let this happen. It's my fight alone and I  will  beat this!
I have also decided to wage my own personal war against those horrible pills! So I think of them as a living breathing toxic piece of sh*t and I am defiantly refusing to acknowledge there existence!  It's working so far- fingers crossed!

If you can flush your script, I would highly recommend doing so! It will give the best feeling of self control and try and hold on to that feeling.  Out of sight out of mind?

Be kind to yourself! I know I was beating myself up every day I took those. Never thought I would an addict, but I am.
The longer you can stay off them the better it gets. Even hard days get a bit easier because you can look at how far you've come and remind yourself that it will pass and you can get through this!

Wishing you so much strength and support!

Im still living with my grandparents and they also had to buy a safe to keep me away from my grandmothers Percocet. It works really well when they are locked up in a way that you know you cant get to them doesn't it? If they are just hidden then I rip the house apart trying to find them as well. Its hard but doable to get clean and stay clean. My prayers are with you Ashamedmama

Hey Mama,  Robin above, gave you some really good advice and support.  I totally agree with her.  Your story is so similar to a lot of us.  It's the same vicious cycle.  There is a light, coming soon, and a corner to turn.  You will do it. Stay focussed and fight.  You are worth it.

Take care! I wish you all the best.

Hi honey.  I took oxycodone at the same daily dose as you but for much, much longer.   Don't give in.  Just don't.   You will get over this...it WILL pass, I PROMISE you.   But you cannot go looking for the pills or think about using them again.

Opiate addiction is a bad life. A terrible one.  And I sympathize with how awful you feel.   I won't sugar coat this for you...it took me a good 14 days to turn a corner, but I did, and you will too.   Write down all the reasons you don't want to be addicted to pills anymore and post them somewhere, in fact, many places, if you can.

I'm sorry if you've answered this on here before, (I've been away from this forum for a while with the flu, which i'm still fighting) but does your doctor know about this?

N/A can be a scary group...i understand...can you go outside of your small town to a meeting?  It's essential you set up some sort of after care for yourself, but first you have to feel well enough to leave the house.

ANY, and I do mean ANY sort of exercise will help you.   Get on all fours and scrub the floors if you have to...you'll produce endorphins in your brain, sleep better, and just think how great your floors will look!

Hang in there honey...don't give up right before a miracle happens...

113 days clean,

-Robin

Just an extra for the RLS...i found when i tried to lay down was the worst so my family bought me those really tight diabetic stockings, like they go up over your knees. I would put them on at night and they did nring me some relief.

Hi! I  hate to say this, but I'm so glad to hear you have experienced the same thing! My husband is a disabled vet and gets them for pain, but he's also addicted. I think if we're to get clean for awhile, then maybe he would feel better. These things can make pain worse! I've noticed that even these past 5 days, my body actually feels looser. Not so stiff.

This whole thing started out as a pill every once in awhile to help with aches and pains from my job, and to help me sleep. Then I got laid off when the economy tanked; I couldn't find a job, and I ended up staying home and taking care of the kids and our home. ( which I was terrible at) Depression kicked in and I started taking them when I woke up, to help get me motivated, so I could get things done. Pretty soon it was all day long and the VA made it so easy! Every month like clock work FedEx would knock on my door with that wonderful gift, free of charge I might add! They have since changed things. Now you have to request a refill which delays delivery a bit. Is that the same for you? How did you kick these when your husband stills gets them? I'm very impressed! Great job! That is going to be the biggest challenge!

Congratulations on Day 4!  That is awesome!!!  And yes, detox S***S but you are almost through the worst of it!  Keep hanging on and start taking the baths with the epsom salts!  They really do help!!!  Do you think that your husband will be able to lock up his meds when he gets them?  It is way too tempting to have them around!  Is he supportive of you stopping them?  Does he take them for pain or is he just taking them for addiction at this point?  Please try to find some kind of aftercare!  It will really help especially if you are living with someone who is still using!!!  Keep on doing the right thing!  You are doing great!!!!

You sound so much like me! My husband is disabled and is on OxyCotin and Percocet and that is how my addiction began. I had him buy a very sturdy safe and lock his meds because otherwise I will find them, even when hidden.  You are doing great, keep it up!

Oh I understand. AA/NA meetings are not the only type of aftercare.  Maybe see a counselor like an addiction specialist. Or you could talk to a church priest or pastor.  There are Definately other options.  Find what is right and what will work for you.

Thank you! I live in a pretty small town and I know this sounds like an excuse, but so far only my husband knows about my addiction and I'm so afraid that if I go to NA, someone will see me. I know it's supposed to be confidential, but it makes me nervous.

Congrats on day 4. You should start feeling better in the next few days. Vicki gave you good advice on the RLS.

It's really difficult when you are living with someone who is still taking pills and is also addicted.  You need to make sure that he understands that you have quit for good.  Make sure you have a solid plan to stay away from his pills.  Have you started any kind of aftercare yet? Something like AA/NA meetings, counseling, therapy, etc. This is critical for long term recovery. You will get in person support, and the tools you will need to help you stay clean.

Take care, keep moving forward.  You are doing great!  All the best.

Thank you! I'm so ready to be done with this horrific addiction, but I'm terrified if I don't start feeling better soon I will relapse.  My husband gets this script through the VA and his next refill is coming on Tuesday. He knows I have a problem and he's tried hiding them, but it almost makes it worse because I know they're in the house somewhere and I have literally turned the place upside down to find them. He is addicted as well, but he's not ready to quit. Feeling scared.

Hi- it could last several more days but it will lessen. Here's what you need:

Epsom salts. Pour a cupful in a very hot bath and soak. The relief is tremendous.

Minerals. You need to replace lost minerals like potassium, calcium and especially magnesium (which the Epsom salt contains).

Fluids are important to flush your system. Also, there's a product called Hyland's Restful Legs at Walgreens which works well.

Congrats on making it 4 days. You're over the hump!
