pain and addiction will I succeed in quitting all meds?

Ive been taking Norco (was vicodin)  and Soma since 1989. I want to stop all pills. Im sick of taking them and controlling my life. Also I know it has altered my emotions and even now just reducing from 10/350 to 7.5/325-10 per day has caused my pain to increase a lot. Ive also reduced my soma from 4 -350mg  to 3-350mg per day. I have noticed im not im not doing a very good job at all! In fact I have taken more then the max im allowed and now im 2days short for the next refill. Im failing. I dont want to damage my liver either. But I cant handle this increased pain very well at all. I cant do ANYTHING because im affraid I will hurt worse. So I just lay down or sit on my bed all day. My question is what can I do to help myself in the worst days of my life. ( it seems like hell) and the second question is there any better or easier way to get off these terrible pills? How long does it take. Im so sick of pills. I figureed that I have taken over 50,000 pills since my injury.

Thanks for your helpful advice. Imnthe one who asked my doctor to help me stop. Cuz I dont believethey are really doing anything anymore. If imgoing to be in pain id rather do it without pills. So shes helping in lowering the dose.  Every other month I guess. But mine is a workmans Injury and suddenly they nosed in after reading my drs report and say they expect me to be off them completely in 4 months. They wont authorize anymore pills then what they planned. So of course now fear and stress chime in and my pain sky rockets. My doctor said since ive been on them for so many yrs, just ubruptly stopping could be deadly to my body. Im almost 60 yrs old. So she wanted to go slow and not shock my body too much.I just need help in mean time to reduce the pain. Ive tried all products on the market amd have a tens unit. I suppose im sounding like a child whinning. But I have extremely low pain tolerance and possibly  (the name slipped my mind), that condition where it just hurts to move your skin hurts as well as every joint in your body. But I dont want any more pills.  I havent tried the vit. Im a true believer in them. Ill try that. And havent tried aleve but have motrin. Just as long as they too dont damage my liver. Thanks again.
PS I have left my house and my unwanted room mates ive told to move several times. Ive realized my pain went down tremendously.  Stress can add a mountain of pain! So im heading in the right direction I hope.but have to go homensoonbsincenit my house.bhaha

you have been using for over 20 years, what is 2 weeks max compared to that??
the fear of withdrawal is often worse than the actual withdrawal itself and it sounds like you do it monthly anyway.
this time tell all your sources you are quitting and do not refill any scripts.
search this site for Thomas Recipe.  those are things that will really help you.
you may want to fight one pill at a time.
for ex.  cut all opiates and use the soma to help get your through that and then stop the soma.
i would start a good vitamin/mineral regimen today.  especially, cal/mag/zinc (3 in 1), sublingual B12 as well as D3 unless you are out in the sun a lot.
epsom salt. you will want to soak many times a day
hylands restless legs (with quinine) also tonic water with quinine will help rls too.
ben gay or icy hot, etc
i wrap my legs in ace bandages after rubbing them down at night.
heating pads
motrin or alieve
immodium
there are sleepy time teas and other otc sleep aids for the first week or so
you could ask your doctor for clonidine it helps a lot with wd

Hi there, and welcome to the forum.  You will find tons of great advice and support here.  You've been taking pain pills for a very long time, and I can certainly understand wanting to get off of them.  Have you shared your concerns and desire to quit with your doctor(s)?  Really, that is where I would start. Your doctor will be able to help you taper off the pills as appropriate, and also address your pain issues. I think this would be your best option at this point.  Others will weigh in with additional advice.

I hope you will keep posting for support or if you have any questions. We are here to help! Take care, I wish you all the best.
