Birth Defects in Child when man takes Lyrica

I saw that if a man fathers a child while taking Lyrica, the baby may have birth defects.  My daughter's fiance' was just put on Lyrica and I read this.  They will be getting married soon and will want to start a family within the next year.  How conclusive and accurate is this statement?  HELP!!!!

He just started the medicine yesterday so I doubt he will get off soon.  He was prescribed for pain induced seizures.  :(

My daughter is perfectly healthy.  She takes no medications.  Can you possible back this answer?  It really worries me.  Can I go somewhere online and look research these facts?  He just started it yesterday, twice a day. I don't know the milligram..

as long as the mother is not on any medication the baby will be fine.

Studies showed that the drug made male animals less fertile. Also, birth defects occurred in the offspring of male animals who were treated with pregabalin.  

The plus side is that there are other medications that can be used in place of Lyrica to treat certain issues.  I would encourage your future son in law to explore other options if possible.
