is my son using heroin
I check my kids computer sites and phones occassionally for things they shouldn't be doing. The other morning I checked my 22 yr. olds phone when he was sleeping. In his pictures I found a few shots, a newspaper cover "Herion on Long Island", a couple of articles on herion. A picture of something celophane wrapped on the counter. When confronted with the pictures, he said there old, and swore he wasn't doing anything. I threatened a drug test, he said, no problem. He has a pretty good appetite, but is skin and bones. Seems kind of pale, has a nasty cough. He doesn't go out much or work much. He does stay in the bathroom for periods of time. If he is smoking herion, does it have a smell?

that her paychecks were always gone, and she was always broke
but herion is mainly snorted or injected,
if he was smoking it, he wont be doing that for long, he'll need the high faster.
look for spoonts missing, if he's wearing a lot of sweaters even in hot temperatures and to bed, you can check his arms when he's sleeping.
try doing his laundry randomly and checking his pockets for baggies or any "leftovers" that have fallen out of baggies into the pocket.
also check his eyes after comming home from a late night, dark circles and really really small pupils. also he might get really anxious and pick at himself like his fingures and hands.

Oh and if it turns out he is using read: 'mum can you lend me £20' (or something along those lines) and 'a million little pieces'. The former is quite informative in terms of 'blags' and 'signs' (of not only when someone is using but also how their addiction is getting progressively worse) and the latter more about the difficulties of giving up and the dirty side of addiction.
I work in a pharmacy with quite a few methadone patients (some of whom are clearly not clean or ready to get clean yet) but it's very nice to see some of the ex-addicts coming in sober with their kids back in their lives, etc. It'll put everyone's life on hold, but life can be regained...eventually.

If he is smoking it and has been for some time his teeth won't be picture perfect. If he has always been of a slim build I guess that the weight is almost irrelivant. If you really do believe with some conviction that he's upto something then get him to do a drugs test- for your own piece of mind. But if he's fine and you're proved wrong...I'd say stop looking through his things unless you're given serious future reason for concern.
Most obvious thing with my son was missing money, TV, sterio, bike, everything you could get money for was gone. WATCH YOUR CHECKS AND CREDIT INFO. My son was a great kid(actually 24 when he started) who would never steal from me normaly. He was getting convenience checks from my mailbox and cashing them and getting the statements and hiding them. They get more and more desperate. My son needed almost $200 a day to support his habit. DVDs are something they can get $ quick with at the stores that buy them used. The first time my son was clean he moved back home(this is when he eventually stole my credit). He was clean for 3 months, was going to NA with his sponcer and what happened to me is very common. I could see things coming unraveled but I was in denial. His sponcer stopped calling and coming by...he blamed the sponcer. I got drug tests online and he willingly took them. Twice they came out + and he convinced me something was wrong. Looking back I knew but you can easily be in denial yourself which enables the user and they are also the masters of lies. The drugs do this. My son would lie when there was no need to. You can also get a hair folicle test online and you send it to a lab. It will tell you what he used for about the passed 3 months. Learn as much as you can about addiction if he is using. I always believed if a person wanted to quit they could. This is so untrue. We are all living testaments to that. When you realize what this addiction is doing to you , you can really get scarred. It doesnt have to be white powder any longer with all of the "tar" that is dark - brown or even black - around......doesnt have to be needles with the smoking craze that has also been around......its a hard problem...
he could be snorting the heroin.....then there are no needles and no track marks on his body.
go in the bathroom and wipe your hand across the counter.....is there any kind of white power that is on your hand now? (altho if he thinks u are watching him he will clean up after himself)

Well, he called your bluff on taking a drug test ---- Now follow through - that will confirm either yes or no. Don't just threaten it -- do it. If he is really clean then he will actually go through and take it - -if not then you have the answer you feared. Give the test - don't enable him. All the best.
herion does have a smell so if you dont smell anything look for signs of neddle use burned or missing spoons, marks on his arms or hands other places if he is far into shooting up, small pieces of bolled cotton in the garbage most kids know how to get around a urine test insist that it is obseved Best of Luck to you both
Yes you can smoke Heroin It would have a distinct smell you can also snort (sniff) What you describe is really hard to make a judgment on.. If he were doing H some of the symptoms
Nodding (falling asleep at inappropriate times)
Itching around the nose and body
Has a cold a lot
Pinpoint pupils
Dark circles
Money missing

heroin is usually done with needles.. usually. i would ?? if he is ok while in the bathroom so long. my son also did that. till i found out what he was doing. look for things when you can . i.e needles, caps of syringes, spoons. i noticed my spoons were mysteriously disappearing. now i no why. keep your eyes open.
