what are the benefits of NOT taking vicodin?

I am on day 4....  and from past failed attempts to quit, I know that this is about the time where the mental games really begin.  I don't want to relapse this time.  I need some motivation.  I never went long enough to really enjoy the benefits of being vicodin-free, I have been either on it or in withdrawal from it for the last 2-3 years.  Can someone who has been off it for a while tell me why it's better not to take it?  I know it sounds like an obvious question, but I really forgot how life is without it & I need all the motivation I can get.

Thanks!

This is my opinion of why it is good not to take Vicodin others will be able to add a lot to my post:

1.  You can think more clearly and you don't feel like you are in a fog.

2.   You aren't as moody and get along better with others.

3.  You don't wake up feeling like crap and soaked in sweat.

4.  You aren't controlled by a pill.

5.  You don't have to spend the time or the money to get the pills.

6.  Your mind isn't consumed by thoughts of pills, how to get them etc. 24/7.

7.  You are doing your liver and your entire body a favor.

8.  You are not constipated all the time.

9.  You aren't lying and being deceitful to those you love.

10.  The real you finally comes back to life.  You start to truly "feel" again.

That is a start.  I could probably go on all day.  Stay clean it is so worth it.

I am on day 1 off oxycodone same thing basically as Vicodin a narcotic is a narcotic. I;m praying for the courage and dtrength to get through the next few days. I want everthing on that list and more. I was 8 years clean and sober when i was diagnosed with invasive breast cancer and the pills got me again. I hate myself so much right now. I can't tell my family and I'm still in AA when I quit last month I was in meetings evry day but I'm not coming clean yet that I've been fighting the pills for 2 yrs battling cancer is easier in a lot of ways than fighting addiction. One person in program knows so thats a start. Good luck and I will pray for you while I sweat rattle and roll.

I would just like to say that I too have had a problem with vicodin, I started taking them for a serious back injury and then found myself addicted to them.
I have been taking them for the high since the pain has been long gone.
well today I am four days clean...it wasnt as hard as I thought it was going to be. I just prepared myself in advance that i was gonna be sick...I mentally prepared myself for the worst flu like symptoms of my life and going cold turkey to my surprise has not been as bad as i thought it would be.
I miss the energy I used to have while taking these pills but I am not going back.
I am just trying on day at a time. I have a dr. appt for a refill a week from today and have already gotten it my head that i am canceling that appt. I want to stay clean. I want my life back....each day it gets a little bit better and better..
I just have to push myself a little harder but I think the worst is over. When I do hear that little drug voice inside my head telling me I wish I could take just one..I immediately focus on something else. the power of the brain and mind is such a key part in getting off of these pills. I am no one to say anything as it has only been four days i have gone without taking a single vicodin..but this is the first four days I have ever gone in over two years....so wish me luck... I need all the suport I can get...Im scared but I keep thinking to myself..If i even take one pill...even one more pill what the heck were these last four days of sludging through life for??? Especially now that I  see a light at the end of the tunnel

ADDICTION IS INSANITY we can reason our selfs into anything  buy stoping you do all of the above and you stop the insanity we throw are health to the wind we ruin relationships we tend to isolate and where obsessed with pills
the pills are not the problem thay are a bad solution to a much bigger problem you need to get to the root cause of why you need to escape you life we always recamend N/A or A/A because there free and everywhere if you prefer there are addiction counselors and therapists but you need to know that the pills are just a symptom of whats going on and the cycle wont end till you get to the root of it I can give you a 1000 reason to quit but until you understand addiction its a mute point as addicts we need to change the very way we think and reason to overcome this desiease it takes work on your part get to a meeting become pro active in your recovery and you will succeed good luck and God bless......Gnarly

I can't add much to what Ann and avisg said!  All of it is true and more.  You need to find a reason that works for you.  I got tired of being dull and boring.  I used to be the life of the party (well, I thought I was!  :)) and being on the pills sure took that away!
