I want the old me back.

I was given lortab for foot pain and the one lortab turned into 5-10 5mg tabs a day for 6 months. Thanksgivig holiday my partner's mother who suffers from chronic pain gave me 200 10mg oxycodone tabs because they put her on another med and I have been taking about 15 of those a day. I hate it and I am going to stop taking them. I got rid of all but about 10 and I tried taking just one this morning and after about 4 hours I thought I was going to climb the walls so I took 5. I can't stand this and I can't tell anyone my dilemma.  Should I just throw them all out and just drug myself for a few days with Benadryl or should I take a couple of the oxycoones cut in half (would be 5 mg cut in half) a day for a few days.?  I'm at a loss. Help.

I agree going cold turkey is the best! Or it was for me. Anytime I thought I would tapper down I would just take more and or the same everyday and tell myself that I would do it tomorrow. Well tomorrow never came. So I just decided I wanted to go cold turkey....It is def. the flu from hell (not to scare you) but you can do it no problem! ONLY IF YOU WANT TO DO IT!! Im 32 days today and feel like my old self again!!

It takes time to get our lives back but it took time to take our lives away! So if your really want to put your mind to it and do it!! Good Luck hope everything works out for you!

You need to beat these right now. I was in the same boat probably about ten years ago. Today I am 30 days off. It is not as hard as you think and you already have the right mindset in knowing you need a change.

Don't let any more time pass to allow what you are doing progress. Life is too short to waste on a pill addiction. There's no reason to feel ashamed about it because it happens to the best of people. I had acl surgery and it progressed from there.

Focus your mind and ready yourself for a few miserable days. It's unavoidable and really it's a good thing to help deter you in the future. What helped me was to read these forums and get the encouragement that others have left as well as the advice of what helps. Just know that a week or so from now you will be glad you made the journey!

The cravings will suck for a few days and you will deal with all the symptoms you see on these forums, but they all will pass. Everytime I got a hard craving I just focused on my determination to not let it beat me. Count the days as victories! That helped me a bunch.

When I got past a week, I took one and it made me more mad at myself than anything. That was it for me- now I don't even focus on all the thoughts that come along with an addiction. Just know that you are on a mission and there is light at the other side! Good luck and hang in there!

Yes I wuld just get rid of the pills and cold turkey it.Get some immodium and take triple doses at first. It will help with alot of the symptoms. You can do this and it will be worth it in the end.You need to give it several days before you will feel better but just stay strong and if you really want your life back then that is exactly what you will get.Good luck buddy!

I would suggest getting rid of them and looking up the Thomas Recipe-settle in for a few days of flu like hell and then take it one day at a time.  The detox is hard physically but if you really want your life back as you say you do then you CAN do this. Hot baths, lots of fluids, B Vitamins, and if you have doctor access clonidine is a life saver with W/D symptoms... Keep posting here there are a lot of very knowledgeable people with great advice.  I am 8 days clean off oxycontin and feeling more like my real self every day.  Then by Christmas you will truly have something to celebrate.  Sending you support....Lulu
