Injecting Maxalt

I have a family member who is a heroin addict. She also suffers from migraines accompanied by vomiting. Today she passed out & turned blue, prompting me to call 911.  She proclaims that she diluted and injected her migraine medicine (Maxalt) because she keeps throwing it up.  Her symptoms, however, where those of an opiate overdose....blue hands and face, low respiration, eyes rolling backwards, staggering, tremoring arms upon waking up, disorientation, etc.  Does anyone know what the side effects would be of injecting maxalt?  I find this impossible to believe that it would knock her out and turn her blue.  Sadly, the police & EMT's didn't have just cause to bring her to the hospital.  I'm at my wits end. Thanks for any help.

I agree with you completely.  Alanon is the best advice to be given to someone when a loved one is in active addiction.  It saved my life, by my loved one going.  I've been in recovery for ten years,  andas long as iIhad someone to hold my hand,  support me and my habit and agree when the world was against me, why clean up.  Again,  great advice and good luck.  I know you love them but this is best.  At the rate your currently going, you'll love her into the ground, where my brother is.  (I know that is harsh but it's the awful truth of addiction.  Jails,  institutions, and death. Those are the 3 places we mostly end up)

Are you living w/ this person? Is this person your daughter? Is she financially dependent on you? It really doesn't matter what she says, if she's an active heroin addict, she is lying about her using. The only useful info for you and your sanity is to stop enabling this person. You can give her a choice to get into rehab or (assuming she lives w/ you) she needs to find other accommodations. You won't ever help a addict by making them comfortable in their surroundings.

I can't answer your question. But I bet you already know the answer in your gut anyway. You know she is an addict and she's driving you insane. Please please go to alanon. The addict gets ALL the attention, and the family members forget they have other purposes in life besides thinking about an addict. Alanon helps you do that along w/ giving tons of support.
