I have been taking (4) 10/325 Percocets for the last five years.....about 2 years ago, my pain dr recommended Fentanyl patches which I have recently weaned off of.....I am sick of taking any pain medication......I am concerned about my chronic pain returning, but I want to stop being cloudy and unmotivated all the time.  This is Day One......any suggestions?

Yes, Imodium is a lifesaver for the diarrhea. Ginger ale or slices of ginger root can really help with the nausea. You also can steep some ginger root shavings in hot water and make a tea.

Hi there! Congratulations on getting off of the Fentanyl Patch. That is one of the more difficult opiate to quit. The Percocet should be fairly easy compared to that. The best advice I can offer you is to eat as healthy as you can during your detox, avoid processed, fatty, and sugary foods, as well as caffeine.(All of these can increase inflammation in the body tissues ans increase pain as well as slow down your detox process and healing.)  Lots of water, juice, and gatorade to stay hydrated. Imodium for any diarrhea you may have. The biggie is just to stay busy and keep your mind occupied. Movies, music, books, whatever hobby you may have. The more active you are able to be, the quicker you will heal and start to feel better. I know it's hard, especially with chronic pain. I also suffer from several chronic pain issues, the biggest being a pretty severe back injury. I am just over my 6 month mark off of opiates and my pain level is way better than it ever was when taking pain pills. The pain got worse initially during detox, but started to ease fairly quickly. This phenomena is called opiate induced hyperalgesia. Basically our brains trick our bodies into feeling more pain than we are actually in so we will continue to take more and more opiates. Please stick around this site for advice and support. As you begin to have symptoms, post and let us know what's going on. We can recommend different remedies to ease the symptoms of withdrawal. We will be here for you every step of the way cheering you along. You can do this!! Please take care and try to keep your head up.

Yes, when you first go through withdrawal there is a good chance your initial pains will return, but temporarily depending on your injuries or cause of the pain. It happened to me. Before I took my medication, like in the morning when I got out of bed, I'd have my standard pain that the dose would then quell. When I stopped for good that pain came back, but then gradually leveled off. But that's me. Life is MUCH better for me dealing with what pain I have left and having no opiates in my life! You're going to really improve your life going through what you're going through. Do get your doctor fully involved with this!

Congratulations on your progress so far. Weaning off of the Fent patches is a major step forward to freedom and you're on the next step. If this is day one after stopping the Percs, withdrawal shouldn't be too far away. You might want to look below and pick up the items suggested on the Thomas Recipe link. They will help you through WD. Also get some Epsom Salt for hot baths. As you go thru this the Hot Bath will become your best friend; to relax you and help with your aches and pains from withdrawal. Sleep will be an issue for a while, the baths help with that also.

I wish you the best. Keep posting, you're not alone as you go thru this.
