Living Sober - Health Fears

I am two years clean of hard drugs and alcohol for many years. I am worried I will get sick from all the years of abuse. What happens to women physically, when they get clean?

People get sick, if you ever do you cant think its from your years of abbuse. Iam sure youve have heard of poeple of geting lung cancer and never smoking a day in their life. Your clean now thats all that matters your body is healing itself as i speak, if not healed itself.

I agree with Lovebug.  Being clean is so much healthier for your body.  Have you been to the doctor and have they run any liver, kidney blood work, etc.??  That will give you some info.  I know at my last yearly physical (and I was still not clean) all my liver functions were fine.  Maybe doing that will ease your mind a bit.  Congrats on 2 years that is awesome.   I wanna grow up and be you some day!  :)  with luck and strength I will.

BTW, I am almost 61 (I did not just say that) and having my brain clear is so awesome.

Hi there, Ive been clean for 7 years, and have made a successful life in these 7 years.. I got married, have a beautiful daughter, am happy with my work. I also completely left my beloved NYC home. Currently in the south and live close by the ocean.. I'm sharing this to you today, to say it is very possible to be happy, which follows good health. And don't be scared. It is a journey.. I was always a very smart and intelligent girl growing up. Drugs came into my life at a bad time.. But through these 7 years I dived into personal development a bit, worked out or did yoga almost every day. And worked on not beating myself up everyday about my past, or if I couldn't get everything done on my list. As I kept very busy.. Trust that your body will heal, and that there are alternative, holistic and homeopathic ways including teas:-) that will help deal with your stress, so you can start the healing process.. Let your emotions out. And if people around you don't get it. Find people online or local support groups, that will nuture your new journey.. I think for all of us, it's convenient to numb it.. But when you discover this inner force within you, anything is possible. I know it's not easy.. But keep a journal with your new journal, and focus on designing a new life..that is always instant drugs for me. To be able to dream again. Good luck and congrats.:-)
