Question in regards to detox...

Is there any proven reason why some have longer or tougher WD's than other's? In theory if two people took same exact thing for same period of time then why would they be different? Does your metabolism play a part? I just been reading some posts and some people are like on day 8,9,6 or whatever and still have symptons that go away for me by day 3. I am in good shape and have good metabolism so I am just wondering if that could be a reason why mine are so short.

I have been here since April 2008.  Vicoprofen was my DOC but i would take anything that was in front of me........It was literally life or death for me when i came here.  Started abusing drugs and alcohol at an early age.   Thank God i found this place and my recovery care......Today i am truely grateful and finally living.       sara

HAHAH JAMES, read what I put on AZKathy post. Right before I read yours, i said how the mind is a powerful thing and if wake up each morning and tell ourselves we are going to feel even better than yesterday than it will be so. If we wake and worry how we feel then the day will not go as well. POSITIVE THINKING LEADS TO POSITIVE PLACES. When I am healthy I really want to help people. I have battled so much adversity from being a dropout ex dope dealer, large one sadly to say, to picking myself up from that and turning my entire llife around. I always wanted to go and talk with people that were headed down the same path I was in regards to lifestyle. I wanted to show them that being a gangster is not cool. Anyways, once I heal I can think about that but for now its time to be selfish.

It will be different this time as you said you are not alone in this. Thats the difference here, our secrets keep us sick. You have so much to do this for your wife family. These are the things that will get you through this.Boredum is a negative thing you my friend turn those negatives into positives motivate yourself. I know its hard but thats the thing that always made me relapse was negative thoughts, sitting there bored my mind would always turn to my d o c .Now that iv changed things i have been clean for 181 days. You can do the same Bucksfan. The very best of luck to ya my friend ,,,,James

Yea, the mental will be tough for me because I am a thinker and also have to be motivated. I really have no reason to use, I mean besides the deaths of so many friends I have a great family, friends, nice things, money is now tight but who doesnt have that problem right now. I have a lot of activities I like to do and beautiful wife who is trying to become a better person. I think I just hate to be bored. I think that is my devil, boredome. Anyways, I bet all that plays a part but like avis said the short and sweet answer is everybody is different so everybody reacts differently.

That's a great question.  I too have wondered that often given that my wd was not close to being over after the first week.

We are all different.  Our reactions from drugs, our intolerance to them, the onset of their effect.....all of this differs for everybody.  I suppose that just like the above examples that we would expect to find differences in severity and length of wd as well.

I bet metabolism plays a big part.  I also imagine that general health condition does too.  This includes mental health condition as well.

How about age, weight, pain tolerance, happiness level and personality type????

Any chemists or health care professionals out there with a clinical answer for us????

Good question, I look forward to hearing other answers.

Thanks James, It's amazing that over 3 years or so I have come to this site confessed my sins asked for help. Beat it for a week or two and then failed. I come back and say I am going to do it again and not a single person says shame on you. Instead you all welcome me with open arms each time. I thank you all for that. This time is different though because I am no longer trying this alone or in secret. Anyways, I think that would be an interesting study on why wd's are so bad. My best friend is in a real bad place and he wants out but is so scared because he Wd's are so bad. I have been actually talking with him and saying one I am healthy I will help you fight this battle. Just hang in there.

Hey Bucksfan i agree with yo that if your motabilisim is in good shape. It will speed up the w/ds But as you know through reading other posts everyone is different and as you have a fast motabilisim the w/ds are shorter for you. I agree with you totally on that one. I would also like to say im very very proud of your acheivments you are doig just fine. You sound very upbeat witch is good. Keep moving forward my friend you are doing an awesome job. The very best of lck to you Bucksfan,,,,,,James
