I've been using it for 13 years. My family dr prescribed it because I was experiencing post-partum depression.
I started at the lowest dose and over the years they slowly increased it. I've now been on the same dose for about 8 years.
I stayed on it because it helped me with my anxiety and depression that I've had since childhood. It made me not be at the whims of my moods and hormones. I can think clearly and do not fall into the cycle of anxiety and worry, like I used to do. I can let go of my fears, whereas without it I would worry myself sick.
It helps me sleep, so I take it at night time. (Many people are the opposite) There was a long period of time where I had to get used to it because it made me sleepy. I could, also, feel/see the changes in my moods. My husband even welcomed the improvement. I like it and it improved my life.
Hey! Welcome to the forum.
Buspar is an anxiolytic agent and a serotonin receptor agonist (SRA). It's not a benzo (like valium) but it has an efficacy comparable to it.
Celaxa is an anti depressant in the familly of the SSRI's (like prozac).
It really depends from person to person what the effect are.
SSRI's work for +/- 60% of the ppl trying it. Didn't work for me but did wonders for others.
It is extremely difficult to find what helps and IMHO, I think your dr is trying out what can help your wife. There is no golden rule or magic pill.
Is your wife in therapy?
That really helped me against the anxiety and the panic attacks.
It takes a lot of work and a good counselor but it's really worth a try and at the end of the road, life is so much better without pills and with the knowledge of yourself.
Best of luck to you both, feel free to holler if you need any advice.
