Yrs you can refrain! I AM 23 days clean and I an surrounded by oxy and vicodin. I care for both parents who are sick and need to take pain meds. It took me a year to finally stop, but when I was ready I was ready. Yes, there is temptation, but I just tell myself I dont want to be the person I was, I dont want to loose my boyfriend, job, and the ability to go to school. You have to dig very deep and find the strength. Read some of my past post, especially the one that is titles I didnt know I had this much strength. You can do it. Your mind is very powerful and you have complete control on what goes into your body.

I know this will be hard...trust me I know, 2 of them have been calling to me for 12 hours.  This is where you find out exactly how bad you want to be sober all my thoughts and prayers are with you but remember there is no 'just one' with addicts

We relapse mentally and spiritually before we perform the act of picking up a drug. Sadly hun, you are there. If you are putting yourself in a situation where there will be access to drugs--especially a pill poppin buddy--then you are already there. Getting and staying clean is not a test. It is a matter of changing your lifestyle and changing people, places and things. Friend or no friend, it is very dangerous and GOD love you if you can sit there without using. I don't have any pill poppin friends anymore--they were never my friend. They were people who I used with and if I used I made them look like they didn't have a problem. It took me a while to understand that but once I did they were all removed from my life.

couldnt agree more dede opiate addiction is everywhere now.It is very difficult when temptation is all around.Each time we are in a situation and we choose to say no we get a little stronger and the temptation a little weaker.Its a battle that is so doable and more importantly so much better the otherside.As for the uk ive heard people say allegedly  doctors get a cut for each script,It makes you wonder when uncontrolled substances like tramadol (ultram) get given out like sweets,and makes many unhappy people.

the sad thing is is that i have realized that it seems like wherever i go there are pills. someone is always on them. heck i moved in with daughter and she introduced me to her neighbor a lady that is about my age and seemed nice enough and lo and behold after talking to her a few times i will be damned if she aint addicted to oxys. you know  when i was a youth the only thing people did was smoke pot. i never was addicted to that because i didnt get the high people got off of it.
doctors are so free to write prescriptions for them. heck i got to where i called my doctor once a week and he always filled them and i havent been to see him in 6 months because i have no insurance. if i called today he would fill them. well if it wasnt saturday. my daughter says mom you have a crooked doctor. i dont think they get a cut from just writing RX'S but i dont know for whatever reason he has never turned me down.
so since they are all around we just have to be strong and resist temptation. something that is hard to do when we are addicts. i am just gonna try to remember how crappy i felt when trying to come off of them.
so in the famous words of Nancy Reagan...JUST SAY NO!

Hi,Samari.
It's tough because this type of addiction is all over.always past experiences,places,people to remind us.A major part for me was having to cut of all contact with a couple of good friends.But ultimately you are the important one.There comes a time when these places are enjoyed without pills and so much better there are.Take care.
