Methadone vs. Suboxone

Hey there everyone, I just had a question about the drugs Suboxone and Methadone. My question is which one has the mose opiate like affects ( gets you high like other opiates)? My doctor is putting me on one or the other next week, and I want to be on one that is gonna work, but I also want the one thats not going to get me high like heroin or Morphine does.  Any info on the comparison of these drugs would be helpful...I would rather have people answer who have experienced one or the other first hand or a professional in the medical field, like a doctor or a pharmacist
                  Much thanks,
                  Danners

Neither drug gives you a great euphoric feeling Methadone is pure synthetic opiate while sub is partial antagonist but also contains the drug Naloxene wich brings people out of opiate w/d,,the reason these two drugs are used is for the reason of not giving ppl the "opiate high"  if it got you high then it wouldnt be a good detox drug.  Although some people when they first start it or increase there dose can feel a little euphoric but not much and not more than a couple days.

danners,
no suboxone dosent get you high...suboxone is burprenorphine with the additive of naloxone...it acts as a blocker like methadone, but it is a partial agonist, methadone is a full agonist, thus producing a type of high.  there is NO high with suboxone at all,
read this maybe it will help...
actually i am going to PM it to you instead so i am not reposting the same info repeatedly, watch for it...ok?

skoochie...i think all of us that have been on methadone say that, it def. would have been easier to get off oxies...but hindsight is always 20/20, right?
there are horror stories of people getting off sub, but there is usually a reason behind it, and it can be from numerous reasons...to hear the success stories you have to go elsewhere to read the proof and facts.  it is possible to get off sub with mild discomfort, nothing is completely pain free, but sub is far easier to come off than anything i have seen or heard yet. as far as its ability to ease pain...it seems to work wonders for some, and like me takes just enough of the edge off where i can say it works... it seems to differ with everyone.
but your definately right about the methadone...stay as far away from it as possible!!

the methadone even titrated slowly still has withdrawals and some say you do not feel right for another few months or longer after it is stopped.  I don't know first hand yet because I'm still tappering on it and it has not been fun whatsoever!  I am functioning allright but I can't remember anything i feel permanatley "stupid".  If I had it to do over I would have tappered off of the oxy and would have never tried the "easy" way out because it's harder.  I hope maybe some of that helps?  Look at some of the horror stories of people getting off of sub, I don't know if they stayed on it too long or did not tapper slow enough but I keep seeing people post about some bad withdrawals with that stuff too, they last longer than morphine and heroine but are less severe?  Deffinately don't do the methadone!

Thank you very much for the info...but your answer has risen a couple more questions, When you say Suboxone stops cravings that would mean that it does get u high right...cause otherwise how would it stop the craving or help with pain? And can coming off Methadone be a little easier if  you titrate real slowly?

i have been on methadone and if i spiked my dose enough i could get high, i was on methadone for about 11 months....i am now on suboxone (10 months now),no high at all whatsoever, it cant be abused at all either. methadone can be abused...
methadone is a full agonist, which means you will feel the full efects of it because it fills your brain receptors to capacity and does produce a type of euphoria, but different than percs or vikes.
if you are an addict, suboxone is the better choice hands down. methadone is a severe and dangerous drug in my eyes, and i am lucky to be here now, ALIVE AND BREATHING...

suboxone is a partial agonist, which means it only attatches to certain portions of your receptors, meaning it helps curb WD's, cravings and stops all addictive behavior, without any of the euphoric benefits. and it cant be abused especially by IV drug users because it has naloxone in it which acts as a blocker when taken properly under the tongue, but used IV it will activate the naloxone and the person will be deathly sick.
you have to be in WD's before you start suboxone.
it works wonders for an addiction.

both have a long half life, methadone is a beast to kick, suboxone can be kicked with mild WD's if a slow and low taper regime is followed properly.
methadone WD's can last for up to 6 weeks, suboxone around 2 weeks..
both seem to work the same for treating pain...

Ive never been on methadone and am NOT gonna give you all hearsay info about it but I will tell you suboxone will not get you high, and from my experience ( went on maintinance) if tapered right is easy to get off. Just to clarify when I say easy I dont mean there are NO WITHDRAWALS from comming off sub. Either way you look at it you are going to be uncomfortable detoxing  from any opiate. Good luck with your decision.

Methadone=bad
Suboxone=good
I'm on Suboxone and it does not make you high, it is addictive but the withdrawels are nothing compared to methadone. It also does not screw up you body like meth.  I beleive eventually the government run rehab clinics will eventually replace the Methadone with the Suboxone.
I have also done Methadone to get high, not as a detox tool. So methadone does get you high. Also had friends that did it for the high.

"bump" means that the person wrote somthing to bump your question to the top of the forum so people can see it sooner and help you.  If you are going to do anything don't do the meth.  It got me high and it has been a %&*#$ to get off of.  The sub has withdrawals too but I guess not as bad as the methadone.  Goodluck!!

I have been and am on methadone. It has never made me feel high. Some people say it make them high when they start. but it will not last. I have never been on more than 50mgs. I am trying to get off it. For me it is harder w/d on meth than the pain pills.

Well, if I were to have to take either one, it'd certainly NOT be the Methadone.  You are way more likely to experience euphoria on this.  WAY more.
