Self Sabatoge

Why is it no matter how great my life is going I have to try and ruin it. The need to always escape reality has led me from one drug to another. It's like I can't let myself be truly happy and I do not know why. I feel if I don't figure this out I will just continue on the same path. I am tapering off and doing better but how do I go through a day sober? I haven't in so many years I just don't know what it will be like. I'm scared which is so silly but I'm scared what if I don't like myself sober what if no one likes me either. when you are sober you are vulnerable to pain and I'd rather just shut everything out. I just wish I knew why i have always done this since I was in high .school. I guess I don't really have a question just wanted to share.

GREAT post Guv338........Kawaii33, As addicts I think we all go through that..Once you allow yourself to let it all go, you will be surprised at how much more you like yourself...It may not be easy to get there, but hey it was much harder being an addict..
Good luck

I think you do have lots of questions.  The first and most important one is do you really want to break this cycle.  The one drug to another escape you mention is just something
that we allow ourselves to get into.  There usually one specific event, or person, or chain
of events that we can look back on in our lives and say, if I had not met him/her, or if had
not gone here or there, that I might not have gone down this path.  But all of the self
analyzing and guilt that we place on ourselves, does no more than did the hole even deeper.  Stop worrying about what if no one likes you.  You have got to learn to like yourself first and then people can begin to see the real you and there is good in all of us if we will just give it a chance to come out.  I hope you will find your peace and happiness.  Take it from someone that has been there, going through a day sober is not nearly as bad as you think.  You might just surprise yourself, if you will give your self the chance to shine.  You are in my prayers.  guv
