I was busted once and went to jail. Busted years later and went to prison for 5 1/2 yrs. Still did some drugs in prison. Still did more when I got out. Addiction doesn't seem to care much about the laws. It's such a vicious thing!
I volunteer at a drug rehab and have heard many people talk about the legal problems and charges they face because of being in posession of narcotics. If you have the pills in a bottle with a prescription label AND your name is on it, no problem. If they find random pills say in a baggie, or tylenol bottle, or someone elses Rx, you are in possession of a controlled substance-and you can face serious time. I cannot speak for everyone here, but do admit i have received some of my meds illegally. Whether we are addicts or not, it is against the law, but for me the more damaging aspect is the fact that I'm going against my own personal beliefs and values and that effects my spirit more than any jail time would.
The illegal aspect of our addictions is just one of the many reasons to get off the stuff. It certainly was one of my sisters and my big fears. Being involved in any of the illegal stuff also makes you feel so dirty (besides the fear of getting caught).
Most here start with valid scripts.....but for those few with addiction problems it snowballs. For me it depends on your view. Is addiction a sickness? Or is it a choice to catch a buzz? The fact that most veterans here say they lost the high but were hooked on the drugs tells me what I need to know. And I havent trusted our Governement with much since Vietnam - no thanks for their assitance......
Some like me will run 2 or more scripts and that is illegal. Mine were from my private MD and the VA neither one knew about the other until I fessed up about my addiction and told them what I was doing.
I think most people have a valid script, and as long as they keep the bottle with them, it wouldn't be a problem.
But if you are buying the off of the street, and you have more than your script allows...then you are probably in for some question answering.
MY GOD! that story about your neighbor sounds JUST LIKE my friends husband. had a legit reason to use (torn rotator cuff) five years ago, and now he is soooo out of control. she is in the process of a divorce from him and he just recently lost a da mn good job because of it. he takes hydros, soma, valium and no telling what else. he's done this for five years. it's sad because of her twin girls. they had to see their daddy laying in the floor passed out because of the pills.
just wanted to share,
lisa
Several years back my friends husband he had a legit rx for them (yes, he does abuse them now) got pulled over right in front of the house....well, he always carried 3 or 4 in his pocket....we just happened to look outside and she them cuffing him....so we went out and talked to the police and they were in fact arresting him b/c of the pills hydrocodones in his pocket w/no bottle showing the rx (he got pulled over for not signaling to turn on to our street) so we explained to the police he did have a legit rx and ran in the house got the bottle and showed them and they did let him off.....luckily at that point in time he was rx'd them..... again that was years ago.....he is no so far gone... who knows what would happen. Point being...yes they can/will arrest you if you have them w/no rx in your name.
dont know...i heard they are cracking down big time on prescrition narcotics...like jail time, fines and all...i guess they would have to search u or ur purse to get them...not like a trunk full of pot or bags of cocaine...easy to hide....but i think as the problem grows there will be stricter enforcement
