Nodding off

Hello- I am in need of some help as I'm not sure where to start but I know something is wrong.  My brother lives with me in my basement and has been showing some serious signs of addiction.  I know that he smokes weed and has for years, however, the things I am seeing are not anything I have ever known to be associated with marijuana.  I have come downstairs to find him nodding out sitting at his computer.  I yelled in the room to him and he looked right at me but it was like he didn't see me at all.....Last night I came downstairs to get laundry and he was leaning on the hallway wall.  When I tried to get his attention, it was very hard and had to shake him, he then shuffled off to his room and shut the door.  It's crazy because at other times he comes upstairs, very loud and excitable for no apparent reason.  I am very worried as I have young kids and am concerned about explaining the behavior to them and also worried about my brother's health....Please help!

Hi Goldfish Welcome to the forum. It does sound like your Brother has a problem. This is not something you can fix. Your Brother has to want to fix his life to get clean. What you can do is open a Honest conversation. He may get angry and defensive but you need to stay your ground, as the Poster above mentioned these things and many more can occur with drugs in the house. You can ask for a drug test and if he is not willing you have your answer. Now what do you intend to do with your Brother if he is in active addiction ? For yourself you can join a group called Al Anon it is made up of family members of drug addicts You will learn how not to contribute to his addiction, no money no rides no free rent and food these kinds of things all contribute to addiction. Anyway I believe from what you wrote your Brother does have a problem. I'm sorry you and yours have to go thru this but it will be up to you how much you are willing to tolerate.
