I also tried to taper off of my DOC (fiorcet). I've done it before but this time I couldn't do it. I had to go to my doctor and tell her. She was great and very supportive. She wronte my taper out, reducing one pill every 4 days. My husband would count out each day's worth and put them in a baggie and take the rest with him - so I had a choice of taking them all at once or spacing them out. If you have a good doc and think you can taper (it's not for everyone), go and tell the truth. A good doc will help - they deal with more people with addiction than you think. Also, admitting it to your doc does bring a certain amount of accountability. I also asked to be randomly drug tested - sounds stupid but for me, it's another incentive to stay off the pills.
Hang in there! Jillian
meetings like boogie mentioned help so so much...u r not doing a good job of making ur pills last..common problem among most here....u can write out a taper and try to stick to it...handing ur pills over to someone u trust would be easier cos as u have seen, u r not doing a very good job at controling ur daily intake til push comes to shove/then u do...so tapers r hard and often support is needed..would be gald to help u write out a taper if u r really ready to quit...cutting off refills/letting the dr know this is not the route u want to go/is the only way to go...depending on ur dose, ct can be much easier for many...good luck and keep posting
hi. your best bet, (if a rehab is not an option) is to find an aa or na group in your area and talk to some of those folks about your issues. if you do not legitimately need the meds, you will have to get real honest with yourself and talk to your doctor, they will likely be more that willing to help you taper down and address other issues. take care, gm
