welcome!
First off get plenty of Gatorade & get Imodium. The first few days will be the worst depending also on how much he was taking. He was not on them very long so that will help. Also vitamins help. The best way to deal with it is to keep moving and getting fresh air!
Also make sure he eats that helps a lot in the healing!
Keep us posted please and we are here for you!
We are here to help! Most of us have been threw this, but make sure he gets some type of care to stay sober. NA, AA very important at staying sober!
Hi!! Bears is right on, she gives really good advice here. Your son will probably experience some flu-like symptoms, nausea, diarrhea, lots of sweating, hot/cold flashes, and muscle aches. It is so important to stay hydrated and eat, even if it's just some broth and crackers. Your son is so young, he has his whole life ahead of him, I'm sending prayers to you both!! Wish him luck for me, and tell him to stay strong!!
Thank you so much Frogger!
Here we are. 14 hrs since he took his last pill. He is nauseated but doing OK. I have Gatorade, soup crackers imodium, tylenol pm, bananas, vitamins, pepto, and all the love and support a momma can have. Thank you for your support and your encouragement.
You are a great mom. My mother did it for me on my 1st detox. I just want to prewarn you please get him in counciling. There are deep rooted issues that bring us down this Path. Most of it stems from our upbringing and childhood. Wait until he feels better of course. 7-10 days later. He's going to start experiencing emotions that he won't know what to do with that are beyond your help. Aftercare. .aftercare..aftercare!
Talk therapy
possible anti depressed if depression gets unmanageable.
I went on Lexapro. It worked IMMEDIATELY. I was on it and off it within 19 days. It definitely was the biggest contributing factor to starting to feel well normal and balanced. Good luck take care and God speed!
Thank you! I will definitely get him in to some therapy. He has been battling with depression since his gf broke up with him a year ago. Plus other issues. Thanks for the prayers!!!
Just checking in to see how your son is doing?
How are you doing? It can be hard on the person taking care of the person detoxing. Some of us get really mean, and when our feelings start coming threw we can say some mean stuff. Take it with a grain of salt and get your son back!
He's been vomiting a lot. Very restless and pain in his back and arms. Eating a little. So far it's going better than I expected.
Hey there!! The restlessness is awful, but it sounds like he's right about where he's supposed to be during the detox,IMO. I know everyone is different when it comes to detox, but maybe he'll start feeling a lot better in a day or two. Fresh air works wonders, I know he probably don't feel like getting outdoors and taking a walk, but it would help a lot with the restlessness. Tell him to stay strong, encourage him to seek some aftercare, even if he thinks he don't need it. It is a very crucial key to maintaining his sobriety. He doesn't want to follow my path, I have more relapses under my belt than I care to count. In my experience, with each relapse, the withdrawals were worse and worse each time. We're all here rooting for him!! Sending prayers!!!
Also get some epsiom salts and have him take a hot bath with them. It helps bring out the toxins and helps the aches in arms and back.
And yes I agree with Frogger he needs to get outside, the sun and fresh air helps so much!
Thank you both!! I will get him out. And try the Epson salt! Thank you so much for your help and support!
Thats what we are here for to help! Keep us posted to how he is doing please!
Your welcome!! One more thing I forgot to mention, the Tylenol pm might be making the restlessness worse, something to do with the diphenhydramine in it. You might try something all natural, walmart carries a variety of all natural sleep aids
Oh OK! I have melatonin...
I'd definitely try the melatonin.
Today was a better day. Had a rough night but vomiting less this afternoon and he has been in a pretty good mood. I'm so proud of him. Thank you all for your continued support!!
What a terrific mom you are. An inspiration! Best wishes!
Worriedmom, your son is a lucky person. It was neat to hear you say how proud you are of him. Addiction is usually surrounded by shame, guilt and embarrassment. If this problem has only existed for a couple months your boy should bounce back fairly soon. Just make sure he understands that it get worse and worse with each detox so make this his last. God bless and its nice to know there are Angels on earth!
One more thought. I give your son a lot of credit being smart enough to reach out for help. For a lot of us two months turned into 2 years or more. Thumbs up for calling your mom for help!
Thank you! I'm sure it wasn't easy for him to reach out! I'm sure glad he did sooner rather than later.
That is great news! I am so glad he is doing better! You are an awesome mom and a great support for him. Keep strong and give him a big hug for his hard work!
Hi!! I'm so glad to hear he's hanging in there, he's so lucky to have a mom like you! Better days are sure to come. Stay strong!!!
