Desperate

I am writing the letter to you because I don’t know what to do. I am really scared that my use of_____Rohypnol (Flunitrazepam)____ is getting out of control. I feel pressured by some of my new friends to be part of the drug scene. I see people in the media using drugs for pleasure. When I am using and high on my drug, I forget all my problems, relax and school is unimportant. I have dropped out of sports and now don’t see some of my old friends. My drug is costing me quite a bit of money and I am not sure how I can keep buying it. I read your column that you talk straight to teenagers. I could really use some advice…Can you help me?

I hope you're still here reading. I'm glad you reached out!

I'll be honest, I didn't know what this drug was except for what I heard in The Hangover movie.

So I just looked, and see its a benzo. The more common benzo's such as Xanax and Klonopin can cause seizures when stopped cold turkey. I'm hoping that you don't use everyday. But I wanted to post here in hopes that someone more familiar with this drug can tell us about the stopping process.

I pray you keep reaching out until you stop. It doesn't seem so at your age, but life passes quickly. To echo what was said above, you don't want to wake up in forty years still addicted to drugs. There is nothing cool about them. They ruin lives, period.

Hope you're doing good today! Please let us hear from you!

I am still going through withdrawal process; but to echo everyone else, I wish I had never started.  I had a heroin problem 15 years ago and haven't taken that since, but have developed addiction to Vicodin.  One pill and I was back.    I'm doing the same thing, just legally.  Good luck and stay strong!

OK..I am 57 and have been using off and on since I was 14..Just like you, I thought it all was about the party or my friends and what they had or each decade brought a new drug to try. I always was able to walk away when I got tired of it..Took some breaks sort of speaking. In the 90s the hydo/oxy got me hooked so bad that I went up the latter to Methadone and was snorting it with Adderral which I did not need..I took a Benzo at night..NOW my point is..IF I would of new then what I know now on how many areas of the Brain these drugs hit and how much damage all this can do to the Brain and Body I might have not went down the road for the last 12..When we are young we think we are superman and nothing is going to happen..Well using at a very young age can stop the brain from developing right. It can do all the things to your future just like Rosy said. If you want to have a good life you must do it Drug free before it gets so bad that you either lose everything or your Life. It takes a lot of work and you must do some serious changes. You can not go around people, places or things that can cause triggers to use. Please EDUCATE yourself on all you can about the "Disease of Addiction" and also the "Disease of Addiction and the Pleasure Pathway beyond willpower". Maybe this information alone will help you be more in-tune with what can or will happen if you keep using ANY MIND altering Substances. You are young and I sure do Pray that you will get out and stay out for your own sake..Get yourself a nice career and stay straight so you can have a wonderful LIFE!

Can you talk to your parents without the fear of undue reprisal?  If so...talk to them, hopefully they will understand how wide spread this problem is and how brave you were to seek them out.  That being said, I'm hoping they will put you in rehab so you can get it all figured out.  I'll be thinking of you.
