I to am sorry for being so mean also. I have done some stupid things too. I just felt so very sorry for that lady and kinda sounded like she was more worried about not getting in trouble than getting clean and I didnt understand if she was able to get them way not put them back.

I'm sorry I didnt mean to sound so harsh. I just couldnt stop thinking about that poor woman without her medication and who knows how long she may have to wait for a new script. We all try to support everyone who come online and I will continue to try and support this young lady. She made a mistake and hopefully this will scare her straight to come clean of everything.   I do hope she comes back online and lets us help her.

Yes I agree with Kolo I am sure she read some of them  but when we are that far into addiction we don't want to think about what effect our addiction maybe having on other people .Only ourselves there really is nothing in her post that says she has any desire to get clean .  Her concerns were a drug test and losing her job.Hopefully at some point she will want to get clean .

I think it was probably just too hard to respond. What we do as addicts is a hard thing to face and this was an especially harsh situation. I only stole from family and friends and never really got caught  - or I should say confronted - but it's only by chance that I wasn't in her shoes, or could be tomorrow for that matter. I hope she finds forgiveness and can get some friendly help.

FYI-
very very very rarely does this work for scheduled narcotics.  If it did, EVERYONE would be doing it.  Exspecially at PM Dr's.  The theme at my PM Office is NO EXCUSES. Or people would use all kinds of excuses....you spilled the bottle down the sink, someone broke into your car, someone stoled your purse....
Most dr. dont repalce pills....for any reason.

I had read somewhere that stolen meds could be replaced with a police report, apparently that is not the case according to some other posters. Didn't mean to post inaccurate information. I hope the ederly victim is not suffering. Hopefully the OP will come back and let us know she did the right thing.

As someone on methodone, I will tell you what is going to happen.  They might not find out if was you, but on the other hand, how are you going to feel if the cops come and put hand cuffs on you.  If you returned empty bottles, your prints are on them. You are caught right there. The person you stole if from is now in big trouble, they have to fill out a police report, and NO they will not just replace it.  The person will have to go to the clinic that prescibes it until they decide what is really going on. She's in real trouble and I'm sure you're sorry. I was too, when I got caught. But I hope you own up to what you did before you are caught, then it's too late. You are an addict, get help now, before you lose everything, including your family. Also, forget about your job and trying to hide all this, it's just a matter of time before you are found out.

I had the same exact experience.  I was just released from a 42 day rehab program.  I wnt to my neighbors house when she was home and took almost 50pills.  They were in front of me, and because I am an addict I opened the bottle and took many in the pockets of my jeans.

Got a phone call from the woman whose pills they were asking me to come visit her we need to "talk".  I knew what was up.  She preceded to ask me why I think she wants to talk?  I played dumb, and not too much later, she took two baggies containing each RX out of her kitchen.  She then told me to confess because my FINGER PRINTS ARE ALL OVER THE BOTTLES.   I ran to my condo and brought back the ones that I took.  She yelled at me, called my X husband, called my daughters called everyone who cared about me except THE COPS.  I think I was spared criminal charges because I admitted to taking them and was able to replace the missing.

Unlike you,  I can not say I will never do that again because it was so stupid.  Stupid or not you are evidencing the insanity of a disease that always gets worse, never better.  As long as I am in active addiction I will steal pills from your medicine cabinet if given the opportunity.

MY ADVICE IS TO TELL THE TRUTH AND GET YOUR BEHIND INTO REHAB.  Remember its jails, institutions or death.

I FEEL SO SORRY FOR THE LADY THAT SHE STOLE THE METHADONE FROM WOW IF THAT HAPPEN TO ME AT 4 BOTTLES I WOULD HAVE EITHER GO TO HOSPITAL OR POLICE MAKE REPORT AND PRAY TO GOOD LORD THAT PLACE I GET MY METHADONE WOULD GIVE IT BACK TO ME. THAT LADY IS GOING TO BE IN SUCH PAIN AND NOT EVEN HER FAULT THAT WORST PART. INSTEAD FLUSHING THEM YOU SHOULD HAVE PUT THEM BACK, YOU HAVE NO CLUE WHAT YOU JUST DID TO THAT LADY NO MATTER WHAT REASON SHE IS ON METHADONE. I ALSO AGREE WITH OTHERS TELL HER BEFORE THE DAY TO USE THOSE BOTTLES AND THEY ARE NOT THERE GIVE HER TIME TO TRY GET MORE FROM CLINIC DONT LET HER WAKE UP GO TO GET HER BOTTLE AND THEM NOT BE THERE OH WOW. HOW DOES SHE NOT ALREADY KNOW THERE MISSING. WHAT DO YOU DO FOR LIVING?

I don't mean to be hateful but I suffer from several illnessess and take pain medication, I don't know what i would do if someone stole a whole bottle of it. That means this poor woman will have to go a month without?image what she is going through? she isnt an addict but dependent on them.. most pain doctors will not give you a new script regardless of a police report or not. The pain contracts say you are responsible for your medication at all times.  I know addicts will do bad things at different times to get their doc regardless of the consequences but I think you need to come clean.. you owe this lady an explaination. Why did you flush them? why not just put them back? you also need to check into some type of detox, there are outpatients facilities. good luck and I pray you do the right thing for this poor woman.

Coming from a fellow addict. . . with kids and alot to lose. . .I can't help but know where you are and know that you NEED to clean up.  Not cause you "got busted" but because it's necessary to live and be a good mother.  We all have done shadey stuff and swore that if we got out of this mess we would never use again and guess what?  WE USE AGAIN!!!  It is only a matter of time before we get caught and maybe this is a blessing in disguise.  Maybe this really is God's stop sign.  He isn't going to let His children do whatever we want.  I love the saying "God loves us where we are but He loves us too much to leave us there".  AMEN and thank God!!  Instead of trying to get out of this maybe you should just take your lumps and chalk it up as lesson learned.  Pray that God takes care of the situation and softens the hearts of those you need to be honest with.  The bible says "He works ALL things together for good for those who are called according to His purposes"  We can talk all we want about our faith but we as Christians (myself including) need to walk it out.  And the truth shall set you FREE!!!  Ooohh I gave myself goosebumps...maybe God was talking to me too haha!!

It's defintiely in your best interest to come clean with your employer. In order for the Dr to be able to replace her methadone, there has to be a police report. It's not something she can just call up and ask for more. Most likely your a suspect anyhow, and if you were to somehow get out of this your going to be watched more closely in the future. Maybe your right when you say there are a lot of other people and teenagers that have been around, but more than likely, they'll figure it out. We tend to think people aren't as bright as we are when we're using. We have everythig figured out, when in fact it's usually the oppsite of what are addictions telling us. I know my concious would be eating me alive, knowing an elderly patient was in pain and without her pain meds, and knowing that it's possible a young person could get in a lot of trouble for something they didn't do. This situation is a great opportunity for you to get into a recovery program. Like the others have said, start going to meetings and get into some type of treatment and come clean with your boss. Your facing a felony if you get caught, versus a lot of respect for doing the right thing by being honest and asking for help. That shows true character. Personally, I'd be sh*ting my pants, but it's up to you, beyond a doubt, you can change your life with the truth.

I agree with everyone else.  Your addiction has probaly already cost your family harm and money.  If you are stealing from your employer. the one who pays your paycheck who's next?  I am not trying to be cruel but I have seen firsthand how drug abuse can take away everything that is of value in order to get the next dose. (my famliy members are the game full gamet from selling to owning the corners to other family becoming users) and my mom and I have had to pick up the pieces of the children's lives.  You may not think so but their already affected.  The best thing you can do is to GET CLEAN, GET PROFESSIONAL HELP, BE HONEST, first with yourself and then with your family and your employer.  Look at the situation with a different lens (not an addict), what would you tell someone who's in the same situation.  You put your job in jeopardy, possibly your freedom, the freedom you need to concern yourself with is freedom from drugs. You employer needed the meds so you also endangered the health of another. Again I apoplogize if this is harsh but before you can be helped you have to be honest with yourself.  How long have you been taking methadone et. al.? Your first post didn't mention your family only your fear of being tested and going to jail and asking a way to avoid them In order to be helped you'll have to stop trying to avoid the problem. You must seek help for yourself not anyone or thing else,(not fear of being caught, your family etc...).   Although I don't know you I love you and am sorry for what you're gong through.  Our struggles may be different but we are still running the same race, to live the best life we can.  I am your sister and I've been harsh but if I didn't care I simply would have helped you figure out a way to 'beat the system'.   Use this site for support. We are here for you.  God loves you and will be refuge in your time of trouble, let the Holy Spirit comfort you through this process and I will be praying for you and yours..  Love, Peace and Blessings...Rev.

Nope....not judging at all.  I think everyone that has commented on this thread has done things that they aren't proud of to feed the addiction.

However...a time came where each and every one of us decided to finally start taking responsibility for our actions.  Recovery cannot start until someone is willing to be honest, not only with themselves, but with others as well.  Or...that's my opinion anyways.

I'll interject for a minute.

First I want to say that we aren't judging you.. At least I am not judging you.  Lord knows I have done similar and worse things to feed my addiction.  That's just me being honest about the kind of person I was during active addiction.  Are you a bad person - no maybe not.  Your an addict.  And addiction makes us do bad, terrible things.

But working on recovery myself I will say that I agree with the above posts about being honest.  I know thats hard to hear and you are probably thinking we are crazy, but thats your addiciton talking.

Honesty and accountability are so important in recovery.  An absolute must.  We have to face who we are, what we are and the MESS we have gotten into to truly recover.  And yes we also have to face pay the piper for our actions.  I shutter in full disgust at some of the things I did in the past. But it is what it is.

Best of luck to you.  If nothing happens at all and you dont get caught or fess up, please take this is a lesson and take the steps needed for recovery.

Many blessings.

I do feel for you, addiction can make us do awful things. You might be surprised at how forgiving people can be if you are honest and take the steps necessary to get help and make sure something like this never happens again. Is this poor lady you stole from going to end up going through hellish withdrawals because of your actions? Her only hope of getting them replaced is your confession.
