Pregnant and taking illegal drugs

My best friends x daughter in law that is due in Dec. She has been taking Xanax, Kolphine's, serqual, soma's, Trazadone, phenagan, loratabs.  She also smokes pot and has been doing Meth all during her pregancy she has been using a needle but she told my friend that she only smokes Meth now.  Were concern with the baby she is carrying and what kind of problems this baby will have..  She thinks she is so smart, she has told us that as long as she quits doing everything in Nov and drink golden seal it will clean her and the baby out.  I can't believe that is true.

And she doesn't know how to take just 1 pill she eats xanax like candy she will take 4 ladders at a time.

Good grief!!   This is beyond sad!

I agree with Sara;the damage to the baby may have already happened. Benzos are especially bad in early pregnancy.

Here is exactly what I would do:  Make a list of every drug and have your friend call the OB/GYN. Speak to the doctor or his nurse. They cannot share info about HER but they'll listen and take it from there. This needs to occur immediately!

Keep us posted...

I hope and pray someone steps in here and does what is right for this innocent baby.  The damage i am sure is already done with all the drugs she has taken.  She needs to be medically monitored to come off all of those meds while carrying this child.  Please be the voice for this unborn child~~~sara

I agree with Dav here. She needs professional help and someone needs to intervene. I'm not sure how you would go about it though. I'm not sure if there are any laws to where you could force her to get help but I would check into it. She's hurting herself and the baby so much. Like mentioned above, if she thinks she is going to "quit like like" she is going to have a rude awakening. If it were that easy why not just do it now. Some of those meds must be tapered to prevent seizure and since she is pregnant some must be tapered in order to prevent miscarriage. It's a sad situation. It's almost impossible to get someone to quit unless they really want to. Maybe you can research the damage she is causing her unborn baby, print off what you find and give it to her. Is there any way you or her mother in law can talk to her OBGYN about any of this?

Not too good. That baby more than likely is going to have issues..Anxiety and attention deficit issues..So she's set a time frame and going to quit "just like that?".. She's kidding herself for sure..
