Brother W/D from OxyContin

Hello Everyone,

I guess it's time that I share my story, however, it's more about my brother. My brother has been using since he was about fifteen. He's used cocaine, pills, pot, alcohol, whatever he could get a hold of. He's now 22. I am his 21-year-old sister and I am home on break from college and he admitted to my family that he is using four to seven 30 mg OxyContins a day for the last several months. He's obviously fantastic at keeping it hidden, considering my parents live with him and he had told us he had quit months ago. We love him. We've never given up hope for him. He's an incredibly bright and talented man with a great future ahead of him if ONLY he could get beat his addictive personality.

So, now that that was said, we're currently trying to get him into First Step. He has done programs before, but obviously they all end with him relapsing. I've never seen this attitude from him before, though. He is determined to stop using. He's experiencing day two of the "super-flu" and it taking so many hot baths that I'm afraid the Atlantic Ocean may not be around for much longer.

I love him, he's my brother and I want to do everything to make sure he leads a sober lifestyle. I want him to educate himself as well as get help and live healthily. Are there any books anyone can recommend in fighting addiction? I got a bunch of movies so I am prepared to stick out the nights with him. Any supplements that can be recommended in regulating the body during withdrawing? I looked throughout this forum and you are all so amazing in sharing your stories and offering support, that I'm going to get him on the forum personally. I've been reading posts to him and he finds them really motivating. Basically, anything you have to offer in any capacity will be something to help someone's life.

Thank you all again.

yeah oxy is a very powerful drug, many users switch to heroin because it is cheaper yet holds out about the same effect as high grade heroin. withdrawals can be as severe as ones from heroin. thomas recipe does help alot. Going into rehab is the first "CORRECT" step to do though as I have determined. I'm going June 30th tried cold turkey buncha times in last 4 months made it 14 days etc... been waiting to get into rehab over month now. Good luck with everything Hope Best for you.

Welcome to the forum and i admire your desire to help your brother..the first step was him admitting it..this is up to him..having all the support from family/friends/this forum...makes the process much better..most of the battle of this is mental..yes there is physical w/ds but the mental thing is much harder to deal with sometimes..good luck and let us know how it's going.

Look at the Thomas Recipe in the health pages. Right side of page. Lots of things there to help w/d. Also Hyland's restless legs or Natural Calm with Magnesium will help the RLS. Put Epsom salts in those hot baths. It forces magnesium in.
