Quitting morphine cold turkey

My pain management clinic had me on MSContin 30mg x2 a day. I followed directions faithfully. But I felt very different taking that and decided to stop cold turkey after 8 weeks. It has been 5days since I had a pill. The sweating, the death smell, sleepless nights and diarrhea are here. I will control the diarrhea with OTC Immodium. My question is  how long does this death smell hang around and the night sweats? Any input is appreciated. God bless you all in your endeavors.

Thank you so much for your input. I'm doing ok. Still low on energy, but the sweats and that smell have pretty much subsided. I got referred to a great doctor that I hope will be able to help with the pain. I appreciate your help very much. Have a happy Thanksgiving.

Thank you so much for your input. It has been almost two weeks. I'm okay. Still have some sweats, still catch that death smell once in a while. My energy is slowly returning, I appreciate you giving me a time frame. It gave me courage to know it wouldn't be long. Happy Thanksgiving. Thanks again for your input.

Thank you everyone for the input. I know I can do this with no problems. I get shots that do very little for the pain in my lower back from fusion surgery 7 years ago. I am fortunate that I live within an hour of the Andrews Institute, which is the doctor that did Drew Brees, RG3, and I believe Peyton Mannings surgeries. I have a referral to see them and I'm hoping they can do something. Right now, I'm just going crazy with the sweating and that smell that comes with it. My appetite returned this evening and I was able to eat with no problem. I am tearing up easily, but I believe it is emotions from the withdrawal. I feel very weak, and can't do much but I'm trying! Thank you all for the help. I'll check in after a couple of days to let you know it's going. God bless you all for caring. :-)

The time release aspect of Morphine sulfate drags it out a little, but morphine does detox fairly fast. 5-7 days seems to be common for pure morphine, so IBKlean is likely right, another few days and you will be healing. The detox cheese should be going away by then to, but try to eat good and get lots of water in you. Good choice quitting now, you really got Physically dependant fast. Like myself, you really do need to keep looking for alternative pain treatment. Physical therapy seems to be helping me so far.

Actually, that is Morphine that she is taking... MScontin is the generic form of Morphine Sulfate.

Hi & Welcome,

that is not Morphine you are taking but it is a powerful pain medication. I am surprised that you are having this much trouble after only 8 weeks so it is a good idea that you stopped. It will not be much longer..maybe two days. Everyone is different.

Have you talked to your doctor about alternative pain treatment? There are other things that you can try besides pain medication. I hate to see you spend your life in pain everyday. Again, it may be a good idea to speak with your doctor.
