Oh no please, that wasnt intended to upset anyone at all : )
8mg in general is quite a comfortable dose, not too high, not too low.
They just compare 1mg sub to 30mg meth when doing a jump off sub.
Most people will say to jump below 1mg sub so you dont feel withdrawals as intense.
Thats all i mean by comparison.
8mg is quite normal of a dose for coming off long term opiate/pill abuse.
Of coarse if your concerned, absolutely confront the doctor.
You need to tell the doctor what will be the most beneficial for your father in law.
Dont let them boss him around into doing something you guys dont feel is right.
But again, 8mg is quite normal.
I was on 32mg daily sub for long term heroin addiction.
I hope that helps : )

Hi amanda, your post prompted me to look up the methadone vs suboxone ratio ( sorry, it's not like I didn't trust you..lol) anyway, that is the general consensus.  That seems like waaayyy too much sub for my father in law then.  MY husband is the one talking to the doc, I wonder if we should mention concern, or would it really **** him off? Thanks for the info..sorry newbee, not trying to jack your thread..how are you feeling today?? God speed, Michelle.

Hi again, im going to disagree and say if your doctor clears you to take valium to help you sleep, i dont see the problem.

Thats the protocol where i come from, when people get down low on a meth or sub taper and start feeling uncomfortable, our doctors prescribe valium, but only while people are doing a taper and detox.

You do what you feel comfortable doing. We all have experience with using drugs, but we can only guide you, not tell you what to use and what not to use.
Just get the last opinion from your doctor.
But i say valium is fine, only because thats our doctors care plan for sub and meth t/ment.
Valium is very contravercial (sp) on this forum.
But i will still give my opinion, if i believe in it strongly enough.
Good luck, your doing great.
30mg of meth is equivelant to approx 1mg of sub, just to give you a rough idea in comparison. : )

Hi newbee, this is second hand info bug I hope it will help... my father in law is currently in a six month treatment program in San Francisco.  After abusing heroin most of his life he had finally kicked the habit at aged 68 (he is currently 72 years old). He gave his son(my husband) up for adoption when my husband was 7 years old. It was such a blessing as my husband grew up with an incredible stepfather and in a very loving and "normal" (whatever that means...LOL home) with him and his amazing mom!  Anyway, enough backstory, my father in law developed shingles three years ago.

At almost 70, he began a terrible run with painkillers. As an opiate addict, they grabbed him in an instant.  He was spending his social security checks for pills on the streets of downtown San Francisco.  We were finally able to get him in a great six month program there..they started him on 90 mgs of methadone and have been weaning him down for four months.  The doctor at his recovery center told us they would switch him over to suboxone at 30 mgs of methadone. They are going to start the process next week with 8mgs of suboxone to start.  The doctor told my husband that he is in for a really rough week during the transition. They want to be able to monitor him for a month before he goes home. Now remember,  he is also 72 years old...but I am just sharing what his recovery center is doing.  Maybe it will take more time for you to adjust, or maybe the amount of suboxone is not correct for you?

The scary thing here, is that my father in law will probably be on this medication for the rest of his life. The lesson here is to never let your guard down like all say on this forum!!! I hope this helps, as he is in one of the best facilities available in the San Francisco area. I am sure you are going to be great, just a little more time to adjust I hope.  Good luck and God speed on your recovery, you can do this!!! Michelle

I have a question?? I was prescribed Methadone for pain for about 12 years..NOT because of other drugs. For Pain.
Did you go to Methadone because of other drugs like a maintenance to get you off other drugs?? OR are they doing the Subs to help you get off of a ride on the Methadone??

30mg I believe is pretty high to jump from Methadone to Suboxone.  I believe most doctors require a person taper down a good bit lower than that.  I would ask your doc about that.

Hi & Welcome, You  need to phone your doctor and have them adjust your dose. It is not correct. You should not have all of those withdrawal symptoms on the Suboxone. Give them a call. Let us know how you are doing. This is a great place for support.
