The only thing to do now is to go into a detox clinic. You're on way too many meds to only be seen by one doctor. You are going to need an experienced healthcare team to help you.
Oh, and fire your doctor.
I do believe that opiates, esp. at high doses, can cause more pain than they "help". That is what seems like was the case for me. After detox I was amazed at how much lower my pain levels were. and I have read where others' have said the same.
Wow, I hope you can find a Dr. who will help you out with all the meds you are on. It just seems like such a hugh amt. to me. I wish you well in your search. Please see an Addiction specialist or a good PMP who will help with this problem and your pain.

How are you taking the morphine? I suspect orally and it's a little higher than the average severe pain dose and I've know people who were prescribed more. I think the WD's are bad but you may get over them a liitle faster than synthetic opiates. all the best
It sounds like you have been down a long hard road, 5 years is a long time.Yes you will feel bad while tapering but it can be done, you are not the first, . I don't know much about the NHS or how it works,(i am in the states) but I would suggest trying to talk with a different doctor about what a realistic taper might entail, if your goal is to be off of morphine completly.
there is also a pain mgmt. forum that might offer more help.
I don't have much faith in doctors anymore, the last 5 years have been a joke. I feel worse now than I did. If I get the sweats every 4 hours, god knows what it'll be like to cut down.
Have you expressed your concerns with him? It might be time for another opinion.
HOney I would find a new doctor ASAP and tell your new one what old one did and you have pain but want on only what you need. Your doctor now sounds like he could careless and only a pusher, I wish you all the best and keep us posted. Pls take care of yourself...
I still have the same doctor & he doesn't seem too concerned. Each time I went back to say m still in pain he would say take another morphine pill or extra oramorph
I would say your going to have to taper down.Talk to your doctor about a taper schedule if you can, would be best IMO.
I agree r.o.a. has alot to do with strength of substance.
So how does she get off of it. It sounds like a lot to me. Morphine was not my bag so I dont know for sure. How would you come off that much morphine?

OMG yeah that is a lot of morphine. I agree with hollie you will have to taper or go to detox. I would not recommend cold turkey or anything even close to that. I think you need a new doctor.

It's not a lot unless it's taken by injection. Morphine is very much weaker taken orally
Wow I feel bad for you and thats a lot of medicine I bet your liver hates you :) Are you wanting to get off everything or what? You got new doctor or still one writes all that
I had an accident @ work & hurt my back. I was prescribed all sorts of painkillers. I now take 7 x 60mg s/r morphine, 100ml oramorph, 8 x dihydrocodeine, 4 x zydol, 4 x baclofen, 4 x arthrotec, 2 x pantoprazole. I now have osteoporosis too. I feel if the doctors took me serious at the beginning I wouldn't be in this mess.
