Suboxan

Good afternoon. My name is Mandy and  I am addicted to pain medication.  I am starting my treatment next week. It took me 2 weeks just to get in and not on a waiting list.  It has been recommended to try the suboxan. Can anyone tell me the affects it will have and how hard it will be to come off of the Suboxan?  I am so tired of being dependant on these evil pills.  It is so hard due to being a single a parent. Thank Godness my boyfriend is being so supportive.Any feedback would be appreciated.

i am on day 15 with the saboxen i only take 1pill a day broken into 4pieces and honestly it has halped me ALOT and the dr should allow you to decide when to taper off,it allows you to focus on the reasons why you use and how to handle life without being high and without withdrawls, yes i can be very attictive but thats why you have a dr to monitor your treatment, they will do drug screenings and things like that, honestly i think suboxen saved my life i was also on vicodins and then tramadols and my life was hell when i couldnt get them so now with the subs i can get up in the morning and take care of my daughter and go to the grocery store, everyone of course is different i mean i tried to quit and did a few times but because i didnt know how to handle life i just went back,so if your goal is to honestly stop using and be clean and sober than i think you will do just fine, just make sure you do everything your dr tells you to do the counseling, the na meetings, best of luck to you!!!!

Thank you for sharing your story. I have heard that as long as you take it as perscribed, then it is not as bad as people think.  I feel those that abuse the drug are in danger.

maybe me sharing my story will help u....i used it and worked out great for me. it possibly had saved my life. i was on methadone for almost 2 years and i tried to tapper off of that (which took 8 months to do)and just couldnt get past the 10 mg mark bc of the aweful withdrawls i went thru. but b4 that i was addicted to every pain pill imaginable for 4 years. neways longs story short since i couldnt get off of the methadone my doctor told me about suboxone. i switched to suboxone and found that i could easily tapper off of it with no withdrawl symptoms. i was off of it in 3months. id really wish i had went that route to begin with. they key here is to not stay on it for a long length of time. the longer ur on it the harder it is to get off of it.  even when i made the jump the only withdrawls i experienced were chills and lil weakness. they only lasted for about 4-5 days.  i even slept 9 - 10 hours.... good luck to ya and keep posting for support.

I do not mind at all.   I am taking anywhere from 90 mg a day of hydro or whatever I can get my hands on. At the current time I am taking Tramedol.  I get 120 of these on the 25th of each month.  Lately, they only last me a maybe 9-10 days. They are like eating candy. I have been using for 1 year.

If you go to the health pages..there are 2 sections i think on forum members and their wd experience...some not so bad..some pretty awful.,,,we r all different.  It is best to talk to a person who is not on the drug to get an opinion about it..someone who d9id the sub..got off...and can tell u how it went....if u plan to get off one day

I got a buzz off the stuff...folks sell it and it is a drug pf abuse in many cases..their agenda advertises it as not causing a buzz//but i know a energy buss when i cop one.//again...we r all different

read the accts in the health pages..u will c a mixture...after being on this forum for 3 yrs..i have seen alot of suffering related to sub...a long hard wd up to a mth long...others who can taper very very slowly...like get down to slivers still have wds it seems but manageable..takes alot of discipline to do a 3 month taper for an addict tho//if we had control of our doc we coulda tapered to a crumb over mths using it...but we couldnt cos we have no control over our doc

sub can become a new doc...not for all...if u r determied to get clean u will with or without it..if u r doing it because u r afraid of a week of less of feeling yucky a flulike...i would rethink it...eventually u will  have to deal with this...doesnt seem like free rides come along very often

Have you ever taken the suboxone?

I started taking suboxone little over a month ago. I am doing great on it, and yes you need to be in somewhat of a moderate withdraw from your painkillers. That will usually start anywhere between 12 and 36 hrs after you last dose of painkillers. It usually depends on how heavy a user you are right now. I was doing over 200mg vicodin and 20 soma's a day. I would start feeling my withdraws coming on in about 12 hrs. 24 hrs pretty bad, and 36 hrs in full blowing withdraw. The suboxone will start helping your withdraws right away and much more after 2 doses.

I started taking it 4 months after my detox. I was just not improving in certain areas that I thought I should have. I still had that dope sick feeling and was nauseous all the time, I had absolutely no energy or motivation, my cravings were still controlling me and I was in severe pain all the time. My marriage was falling apart fast. My therapist and doctor thought I would benefit from it.

Now I am doing pretty good, I have energy, motivation again, I am not nauseous and have absolutely no physical cravings, and I think only 1 time when I was really upset that my mind thought of it for a split second.I am taking 16mgs.  I am beginning to enjoy life again and my marriage is back on track, with some soft spots. All in all my experience with it has been very good. You will not feel high from the drug at all. Just remember though that it is a drug and a very strong one. There are a lot of medicines that cannot be mixed with suboxone, #1 do not take benzopines with it, could cause a deadly effect with the respiratory system. Benzo would be ativan, xanax, etc...There are some anti-depressants, antibiotics and even some natural substances that also should not be taken with suboxone. The doctor should go over this with you, if he doesn't you should ask. You also would not take any other precsribed painkillers why on it. The effect would null no high feeling would come from it as suboxone has a opiate blocker in it. You would get really sick, or possible worse. I do not have any pain now that I am on the suboxone. Hard to believe, but I have 0 pain. I am not sure why, I do know that some people are using it for pain management especially in Europe.

If I were you I would do some research before your appointment and pay special attention to the drug interactions with other meds, the side effects and even check out some stories of people who have taken it have had. I am sorry but I don't know about withdraws after the suboxone is gone. I have heard that withdraws should be minimal and go relatively well, then I have also read the horror stories where other addicts say it is 10x worse then withdrawing from their DOC. Making a plan with the doctor when you first go in is best. Know up front how long the doctor thinks you will need to be on it. Some are still taking it after 4 yrs. Also while you are taking suboxone I would suggest you find some outside support such as NA for support and use the time to find out what your triggers are, and things to avoid after it. Also keep posting here, you will find a lot of people who will support you and keep posting you questions. You will find some amazing people who really want to be here for you and help you while on your way to a better life after drugs.

Good Luck and if you ever want to talk I will be here.  God Bless

Are you still on suboxone?  If you stay on it 2-4 wks//everyone is different//u will be addicted to that too..then what will u do?  stay on it for life or til ur kids grow up to avoid wds?  You are on a narcotic probably stronger than ur DOC unless u were a heroin or methadone  user.  Most sub drs also put subbers on higher doses than need be.  2 mgs of sub will cover a 100 mg habit easily of hyro or oxycodone...most are on 8-16 mgs for this same habit....sub wd is long and hard comparred to oxy or lortab//u didnt styate ur doc or amount u used..

Yow..u really need to educate urself...by the time u get into wds to get on that sub//chances r u would have a couple more days and u would be thru....mine lasted 4 days and i was a 100 plus hydro user..I have used sub when out of pills///knew better than to use it to stop cos id a never got off that sh1t...it was better than my doc...i felt great..why wouldnt i when i am taking a much stronger narcotic?...2 mgs would float my boat for the day..

Suboxone is not the keey to getting clean..it can take the wds away..but it can not make u clean/a subber is on narcs..so how r they considered clean?...only u can make urself clean,,with hard work..have u tried aftercare?  much cheaper and results r much better....it is hard for a pill popper to realize popping another pill to feel better is not always the answer..for some who would kill themselves from continuous relapse//methadone and sub for life are the only answer for them.  Tolerence grows with both drugs tho.

What is ur dose yow?

I too am a mother, of two lil girls, so i know how hard it is trying to kick the habit when you're thinking "I don't have the time to go through withdrawals when i have kids to take care of"! I am on day four, I too am taking suboxone and without it i'm not sure if i would have made it! i take WAY less than I was prescribed and plan to tapper soon, plus if I don't need it I don't take it. You want to make sure before you take the suboxone you have to be in full blown withdrawal and 16 hours since you haven't taken any pain med or it will send you in to a VERY painful rapid withdrawl. The only problem i'm having is I suffer from chronic pain (back and right knee) and I can't seem to find what can manage it! Good luck too you... I know if I can do it after 3yrs anyone can!
