Any substance like suboxone and Methadone should NEVER be used as a "maintenance" drug in my opinion. They both are at least 40 times stronger than Morphine and have a half life much longer than most opiates. Most pain killers have a short half life which just means after about 4 to 6 hours half of the dose you take is metabolized. Methadone and suboxone have very long half lives which extend the withdrawal times dramatically. I have been on both of these drugs over a span of 10 years! I quit Suboxone cold turkey and finally methadone in the same fashion. Being a veteran with PTSD, I checked myself into rehab at a VA hospital and spent a year in a 3 month program intentionally. During a 10 day detox the VA gave me a pamphlet to read about a substance I have never heard of at that time....Suboxone....My doctor spoke highly of this SUPER DRUG. All those AA/NA meetings and all those chips meant absolutely NOTHING! I was not clean. My entire point is to get off any so called maintenance drug. Go through the pain and feel the emotions that come with withdrawing because there are so many bright things in our future when we are totally clear minded. If what I just wrote helps one person still walking around with a monkey on their back, I have done what my Higher Power wanted me to do. I have struggled with addiction for 40yrs so I do have a bit of wisdom to share.
I agree 100%. Suboxone is a fantastic withdrawal drug. However I am a "Suboxone survivor" from 7 years with a cash only "Suboxone doctor." He would have kept me on that garbage forever. Cold turkey damaged me for a year. My opinion would be "Suboxone maintenance" should only be for "terminal addicts."
