Suboxone tapering

I am new to this. I have been on Subs since January. I had been on 6 extra strength vicadin for over 5 years and just decided that enough was enough. I got down to 0 in about 3 weeks and I thought I was going crazy. So depressed I even considered suicide. Found a sub Doc and have been on 8.25 2 x daily since January. I'd like to taper off. I want to know how others are doing it.  Robert, can you help me? This is my first time on here, so I really haven't read anything that you have written and you sound like you could really help me??

I'm glad you are working on your issues and am glad my experience helps. I understand how difficult it is to find a good doctor, and when you do, they are very busy. I'm glad you're on this forum, it has helped me a lot. I have been going to AA meetings every day, talking to sober friends, and meditating a lot. I am now down to 1mg of sub and really have had no serious symptoms, but some sleep loss and aches. I believe that our minds are a large part of the withdrawal. I would take 150mg of methadone and go into withdrawal in a couple hours, because I didn't have any for the next day. I personally feel it is essential to have after care in place and know for sure that you are totally ready to taper subs. Subs helped me to be clear enough to do that. Good luck and keep us posted.

Missy that's great!  How long were yo on them until he had you cut down to 1 8 per day?  Do you go to counseling or anything like that?

Thanks of the information.  Now I guess I understand more why he wants me to keep taking it. I just recently started with counseling.  I guess since I've just started to work on my issues, it will be a while until I'm ready.  My doc's office is so very busy that he really doesn't take uch time explaining anything.  It was making me think that he was more interested in the money. Your explanation was really helpful to me.

Thank you!

Hi there...  I too, am on suboxone.  I started out with two pills a day 8 mg.  The last time I saw my doctor he suggested that I take one 8 mg pill a day.  I did that with hardly any side effects.  I am due to see him again soon.  I think the plan is to put me on 2 pills a day of 4 mg.  I'm kind of nervous about that but it needs to be done.  I want to be free of pills!!  Good luck with your tapering.

I think it's okay to tell people my personal experience, if not, this will be erased. I am not giving advise, but a personal testimony. I have a doctor who wants me to stay on subs a long time, so I can work on myself. I want to know it's me, not subs, that I'm working on. Subs have a long half life and leave the body slowly, therefore it is recommended by doctors and addicts to taper slowly. I have dropped 2mg until I felt stabilized and then I dropped 2mg more. I think the schedule will depend on your body, metabolism, exercise, water intake, diet...That's why it's important to work with a good doctor with subs. If you are dealing with the reasons you use, then the physical part is easier. The Thomas Recipe and Amino Acid Protocol at the bottom right of this page seem to help many with depression and physical withdrawal, including me. Addicted brains stop making all the goodies you need to feel. Hope this helps and keep us posted.

Oh. Thanks for responding . Can you explain to me how I log on to this site. I keep going back to the email confirming that I signed up, but I know there must be another way.  I was reading a forum earlier that was filled with people like me. There was a guy named Robert who realloy sounded like he knew a lot about cutting back. He of course said it was important that people refer to their doctors.  My problem is that it seems that my doctor doesn't think patients should stop taking it and that sort of scares me, although I do feel great.

I don't know who Robert is?

Anyway, tapering off of Suboxone is tricky business so it is best that you work out a good solid plan with your prescribing physician. It should always be tapered from and your doctor deals with this everyday so he/she is your best bet. Also, it is a violation of our guidelines to hand out tapering schedules so even if we wanted to, we cannot for good reason.

Best of luck and let us know how you are making out.
