Subutex or subuxone withdrawal

I found out yesterday that my subutex doc is closing down his clinic.  I have been on subutex for 2 1/2 years and am ready to get off it ....can anyone tell me how bad the withdrawals are from experience?  I have a doc appt next week and will be talking to him about weaning off but he is the doc hasnt actually taken these nor has he ever stopped taking them to really know how bad the withdrawal is goin to be.  I've already started tapering down my dose in preparation for this but Im hoping for words of encouragement that the withdrawal isnt that bad or otherwise.  Has anyone succesfully quit taking subutex or suboxone?  if so, was it bad and how long did the withdrawal last?  Thanks so much

OK so I am Terri, I just kicked cold turkey (smoked like an oz of weed) subutex and at 16mgs per day.  I'd bee on the subs since being released from TX for the first time back in 2010. I recently have run into a money problem and I cannot afford to pay for them. Plus its time to be able to stand on my own feet.  So the WD's for suboxone and subutex is basically the same. The first week- it will basically be like having "influenza virus" THAT'S RIGHT.. THE FLU VIRUS!! chills, aches, bubble guts, very loose stools, sweating profusely, anxiety, it goes on. The second week-The physical ****..you won't get much relief in the second week I'm sad to say. Restlessness, irritation, anger, MIND OVER MATTER!!!, insomnia, more sweating, you're gonna feel weak all over your body, and you're probably very sleep deprived. I know a lot about this medicine so feel free to email me w/any questions. It'll seem to last FOREVER..BUT ABOUT 2-3 WEEKS AND YOU'LL be able to sit still. and will be much more in control of yourself.

Hey there,

I will be off Suboxone for 1 year on May 18th!  I jumped off at 3mgs.

It wasnt great, but wasnt that bad either... most symptoms let up after about 10 days, and those lingering ones lasted for about a month.  But never missed a day of work during the process...  It certainly can be done!

good luck to you

I was on Suboxone for 8 months. I started on 16mg a day and jumped off at 2mg. I have been clean for 212 days. I had little to no Wd's coming off Sub's. Everybody is different so it's really hard to say how bad your Wd's will be or how long they will last. Days 5&6 I had mild anxiety and restless legs. I felt ok after day 6 although I had NO energy or desire to do anything. For about a week I was making several trips to the bathroom.  212 days later my energy still has not came back, but I am CLEAN and to me that is worth more than all the energy in the world. Why didn't your Dr refer you elsewhere? What mg are you currently on? What mg did you start out on?
Best advice I can give you is to get down to the lowest dose as possible before jumping off.

I was talking about full one time quitting, but if you do what udoschoices said, it`ll be better... that`s natural... and he knows what he is talking abot (I guess)

I have just finished tapering off subutex 3 weeks ago and I'm doing O.K. I did taper down below 1/2mg for the last few weeks so when I jumped off I was already really low. I actually felt worse with some of the drops below the 2mg mark than I did with the final step off, so I guess the withdrawal was spread out over many weeks. I did eat well, stayed well hydrated and took multivitamins, B12's, magnesium, L-Tryosine and a valium for anxiety in the evening on a few occasions. Since stopping completely my only lingering issue has been periods of low energy which seems to improve with a strong coffee. The restless legs at night which has always been my biggest problem was totally gone within 2 or 3 days. Also, I had transferred to subs from methadone which I had been on for 10 years so it can be done without too much pain but the key is to do very small drops over a longer period of time for the least discomfort, and get your dose down as low as you possibly can before jumping off. Good luck, you can do this.

not that bad if you taper long and slow... read the "health pages" upper right there are tons of documents....

you'll be ok, as long as you taper down to a low amount over a long time...

I hope it`s not too depressing, but I`ve read some personal experiences. In average their duration is about 2-3 months with some exceptions.

The site (http://www.uho.hr/index.php?mode=rubrike&id=19) is on Croatian so I`ll translate some points...

PERSON ONE
- first three days are full of pain ( "organism is breaking down", "every hair hurts", "barely able to walk", insomnia, freaking out)
- person was told the pain in bones and muscles, cramps and insomnia will go away after1-2 weeks, but it lasted for 3 months
- physical symptoms disappeared after 3 months, then it goes depression, hysteria, crying, anger

PERSON TWO - exception
- heroin crisis=7 days, methadone crisis=37 days  --> Subotex crisis = 77 days
- pain during 11 months
- "heroin is nothing comparing to Subs"
- dr.said: "It lasts until it ends"

I really hope it`s not so bad as they said... Because if it is... Just stay strong.  And good luck...
