Evolver that was the best reply yet. Tha k you! I'm miserable right now with how many bad affects I'm facing 3 weeks out. I thought I was in the clear as it just crept right on me. I appreciate you breaking it down for me. I truly just wanted to vent about how bad this drug is. I will continue on and not look back..thanks again!
Hi,
I was going to post on this last night but got distracted. I totally hear your frustration re: Subs. Personally, I loathe this drug & agree that it has been deceptively marketed (especially initially) & over-prescribed. However, I believe that the honeymoon is well & truly over with this one. The info is out there & floods of dismayed, trapped patients are bemoaning the same difficulties & frustrations you've voiced.
That said, I agree with a couple of the posters that it is absolutely incumbent on us to do our own research on this & on everything you put into your body! The pharmaceutical industry has become synonymous with releasing & promoting drugs that are often dangerous.
There IS a place for Subs & M'done. It's called harm reduction. If you're shooting drugs &/or had habits that have landed you in legal trouble, health trouble -- if they've destroyed your life -- if you've tried other routes & have failed -- then a low maintenance dose partnered with counseling can be a life-saver while you attempt to put your stuff together. Where the patient takes it from there is ultimately up to them. It's certainly not optimal to stay on them for extended periods of time. If you trusted in your Dr. & were put on them for pain or because you had a pill addiction then I feel for you -- it's where you take it from here that counts. (Lesson learned, eh?)
Adlover: I think the difference between Cookies & Suboxone is that there are people without food addictions who are able to eat Nabisco without becoming addicted or seriously altering there neural pathways. Not so with Buprenorphine which was specifically designed & marketed for opiate addicts ! The irony is that's it's more addictive & harder to come off of then most of the medications people are attempting to kick..
Ready2befree: Like I said, I feel the same way you do about what I consider some of the criminally irresponsible & callous way certain Drs. prescribe this med. It's all about the almighty dollar -- it's a cash cow. I know you feel strongly, but I take exception to your calling people idiots on this forum as it's counter-productive to what we're all trying to do here. I don't know adlover's details but if he/she's on Subs & here, I assume that they want support & input just like all the folks who come here. We can share opinions without recourse to that sort of thing, right? I also think you might have missed the point of Ben727's post. He's a long-standing member here, is almost 3 yrs clean (read: not on Subs -- never was) & does his homework. What you've got to understand is that those of us who've been here for a while, have watched people come & go who believe that they're 'clean' on Subs -- not even understanding the basic fact that they're on an opiate.
I have every sympathy for folks that have ended up on this drug in one way or another & are struggling to come off it. I know it's not a cake-walk but it's doable! Have patience with yourself & the process. It's takes a while for your brain chemistry to heal after the insult of these drugs. Congrats on coming off -- stay strong -- it gets better :)
Is (a non-addictive opioid) a possibility? Absolutely. And there are a lot of people devoting a lot of time and effort to it," said Pasternak, who is not associated with the Cara research. "It could be ready relatively soon."
Cara's compound, called CR845, works on different nerve-ending receptors than traditional treatments and isn't believed to enter a patient's brain. In addition to being non-addictive, drugmakers say, it doesn't cause side effects such as nausea or respiratory depression.
This article may help you at least start a conversation with your dr
it is an older article, but maybe a place to start
P.s I'm in so much pain in my ribs from coughing. Yet none wants to help me with my questions. If we are supposively fighting the same fight..why are some people miles ahead while others are in the stands watching us get clean?
27 days OFF subs, fried foods, gambling, smoking, caffiene, xanax.
Hey Ready. With all due respect. This community is a little different than some others on Med-Help. Addiction comes in so many different disguises, time lines, and degrees. We are all different but alike at the same time. There are not many here that believe they have the definitive answer in the grand scheme of addiction. We are here to help guide through are own experiences that have worked for us as individuals and as a group. All the while knowing that come tomorrow brings an exciting new day along with the challenges that goes with it. Everyone is near the same place but millions miles apart. Show the Love my friend, there is enough room for everyone...ike
Wow, you can't even have a decent conversation about this without name calling. I hope you get the help you need. You seem pretty angry , maybe reevaluate who you should be mad at.... You
I don't get high off the subs
But hey, if name calling and being angry keeps you sober, more power to ya
