Need help with Lortab addiction

Ok, my wife and I have been taking 4-6 lortabs (10mg) a day for about 5 years.  Unlike alot of people, we dont really have a medical reason of why we started other than that they gave us energy and we liked the way it made us feel. Now we pretty much just take them not to feel like ****. We feel like our world kinda revolves around them and are desperate to get off em.  We talk like we're going to quit all the time but never do. Well, we have set a date. So by the end of this month our tapering should be through (hopefully).  Is there any advice that anyone can give to me. We really cant afford to miss work but some say to take a few days off. We have never really went through any withdrawals since we started and hoping its not going to be quite as bad as some stuff i read....I have been roaming around this site for a couple of weeks and love the support it gives...Any advice would be appreciated...Thanx

good luck to u both...i was at 80 mg a day...slowly climbed there over about 4 years...u 2 are lucky in a way that is all u r taking after 5 years.....i took a 4 day weekend off work and made it ok....back to work day 5 and my job is a physical/mental one..can not hide out and screw off..LOL..main problem was fatigue at that point but i made it...u can too...u asked for advice....since u both use...u can hold each other accountable...chances are if one relapses the other may as well if not careful so someone needs to hold down the fort...it is a good reason to stay quit tho so lucky in a way...never resort to hiding anything from each other...i know this sounds crazy to u right now...but later on it could be an issue...those pills r strong and u gotta be stronger...it would help me to know someone else was depending on me to stay clean as well
aftercare..good advice...and a necessity....stick to the day u choose to quit no matter what..whether u blow the taper the day before or not...that is still ur quit day...and ditch any left over....make sure there is not a pill tucked away in a coat pocket or in a drawe....best of luck to u both....i am better giving advice than taking it   lol

I used them for about 15 years. I've been quit now for about 100 days. Honestly, the withdrawals are seriously not fun. But at the amount you're using, you could jump off right now. Tapering down some would be nice, and if you can, do so. The thing is you will withdraw while tapering, so you either stretch it out over a period, or quit and get it over quickly. You will have a few days when working will be difficult, no matter what you do. Expect a couple of weeks of lack of energy, and generally feeling like you have little interest in doing much. Sleep will be an issue, or it is with most, for a while. As time goes by, it gets better & better. It's not a few days, and everything is back to normal kind of thing. It takes time to really get back. This is totally doable. Fear of quitting is the worst part, in my opinion. Once you get in to it, you'll find out w/d won't kill you. Expect some miserable days. You'll have some. But it's worth it, and the sooner you quit, the better off you'll be. Withdrawals are what they are. But remember, we're talking about a week of feeling bad, or a life of addiction. That's as straight as I know to be with you. I hope you do it. I wish I had after 5 years.

I don't think Med Help is the right place to be saying that something somebody does is weird...  I agree with cathy though, you should check out the thomas recipe.  I am in the same boat so i don't feel i should be trying to give out advice, just didn't like what I seen...good luck and you have came to the right place

welocme to the site.  while 4-6 per day is not alot the 5 years is awhile.  i dont think you can avoid w/ds.  there is the thomas recipe and the amino procols int he healthe pages.  you can start both of those now.  tapering will definately help minimize the w/ds.  yu have come to the right place for support.  good luck to both of you.
