Hi Shere - don't feel guilty. You didn't have many great choices in front of you! You chose what was best for you in your situation and no one can fault you for that. Everyone does and handles things differently and we can give you all the advice in the world but you still have to life your life...  and if taking a couple vics has helped you live your life then what can be said badly? I just hope for you that you are able to find another avenue to alleviate your pain, and that addiction does not rear it's ugly head. I say this all the time - chronic extreme pain and addiction is the hardest thing to battle with! You do what it is you need to do... just remember what got you to come off those vics a month ago - don't lose sight of what your reality was. You'll be in my thoughts - I hope you'll post to tell us how things are going!

I thank each and everyone of you for your thoughts, and I know that they were sincere and heartfelt.  Well, we did get the prescription filled, Jerry put them in the safe and he has given me 2 today.  He went to bed a few min. ago, and asked before he went if I would be ok without another one before morning....even though my back is starting to hurt pretty bad again, I said no.  He smiled at me because he knew that I needed it but I'm really trying to take only enough to make the pain bearable until I go for the accupuncture on Monday.  I feel soooo guilty, and I pray that the accupuncture is the answer for me.  I really don't want to be addicted again, to anything.  I am taking hot baths with epsoms salts and that's helping some.  Been using heat patches too, but they only help the lower back, not the hips and knees.  I know I should have tried to stick it out, but I hurt terribly for 6 days straight, with no relief until now.  I was almost crazy from the pain.  Please put me in your prayers that the accupuncture works, and I will continue to pray for all of you and everyone else on this site.  I thank God I found all of you because your opinions and experiences have helped me more than I can express and I value you all as friends even though we've never met.  I feel you are all kindred spirits in some way.  Warm thoughts, hugs and love, Shere'

Southenlady...I also have lots of back pain...I take lots of hot baths, use patches. There is alot of stuff I cant take because of my stomach...but I will not take another hydro..NO WAY!  After I quit CT, my back pain was horrible..but I knew I could not give in..PLEASE hang in there.. Yes there are days that I think about how tired I feel and would love a hydro...I have several refills...but they will NEVER be refilled...today I went to drug store...for acid reflux meds...I had the weirdest feeling just being there...knowing that before I would be getting my fix DOC..and I would take a couple before I drove off. I am not that far ahead of you on days clean...I hope and pray that you can find another way to get rid of the pain..

just know that after an addction...u get re-addicted/or dependent cos u will always be addicted..very fast/in a matter of days for some...even 1-2 weeks of use can cause a certain amt of wd when u put them down for many....most of the time the pills are not safe to pick up again but u do have hhubby for control which is a plus...being a chronic back painer..i dont c how it would be worth it really tho...as tolerence to the drugs makes small prescribed doses not effective for most///but we r all different

im sorry but i agree with cattalina. You can not justify taking this, especially if the prescription is not even yours. addiction is powerful. Your body wants the medication because your an addict, there are other options for pain.you have made it 31 days, why throw that away?

I think cattalina laid it all out for you, addiction is cunning and powerful and wants you back.I had a condition called Spinal Stonosis untreated, thats when the bones crumble in the neck pushing inward to the spine.Horrible pain. Altering heat and ice with ibuprofun will get you through the weekend.Pain patches are good too(external) I eventually had a sergical procedure done by a spine specialist

Please please please don't release your deamons again, tough it out I know you can...you did the detox.
I'll keep you in my thoughts. The only other option I know is to go to the emergency room and get a non narcotic site injectionGood luck,

I wasn't going to respond to this cuz my experience with pain management is pretty limited but something is really bothering me and I need to speak on it. First, I think you know the answer to this question or else you wouldn't have asked it.... right? Your second post seemed to be trying to justify in the hopes that someone might co-sign the idea? What really stuck out to me was this tho - "I won't be in control of the hydros" - I don't know... I think that was a subconscious comment! I know what you meant was that you would not be in charge of the distribution of the hydros - but I dunno... I really think that goes deeper. Now - everything I've said so far could be bulllcrap IF you had a physical dependency vs. addiction. The difference between the two is the mental garbage - that's what makes us addicts. If you identify as an addict... I stick to the subconscious comment!! Chronic pain coupled with addiction is the worst sword to battle against but addiction wins out over chronic pain every time! You may help alleviate the pain now but you'll end up right back in the same cycle with the same results that caused you to stop taking the hydros 31 days ago. You said you're off the pills now which means you suffered thru a detox, and you're already thru the first MONTH of all the other garbage - if you're willing to take all that on again, then all the power to you but if repeating the same old behavior seems useless... well, stick it out until your appointment Monday. This is all IMHO... :)

I can't take anti-inflamatory's 'cause of my stomach. I'm going to try accupuncture on Monday.  I pray it works 'cause I don't want to take any kind of meds anymore if I can help it.  Thanks for responding, you're very sweet.  Warm thoughts, Shere'

I had some luck with an item called capsaican from Walgreens .... its just pepperjuice .... works on the "ben gay" effect and is hot!  Might be worth a try .... Sounds like you have a solid plan for the hydros if you get them ... dont be a sucker for the mental tug if you do some....Have you tried 800mg ibuprofen?  Good luck with all .... especially the accupuncture........

Thanks for responding so fast.  I won't be in control of the hydros, my husband will lock them in the safe.  He has a prescription he hasn't filled from when he got some dental work done.  He has a nonaddictive personality as you may have read on my profile.  I feel ashamed because I've been so proud of myself and so has he.  I called my pharmacist, and he know's that I've been to rehab.  He also knows that Jerry is non-addictive (he doesn't even drink).  He seems to think that if I can handle the desire that may come back I will be okay to take them for a couple of days, but he said he hates to see me do it.  I don't know what to do.  My husband is the one who mentioned getting the hydros, I didn't even know he had a prescription.  We are both so torn about this, but the pain is almost unbearable.  I'll let you know how it goes with the actupuncture on Monday.  My appt. is at 4:00 EST.  Thanks for talking to me.  I may need your help again over the weekend if you're available.  Warm thoughts,  Shere'

Thats a tough call .... may even depend upon your definition of the "or so" part of your question.  That would not have been a good idea for me .... probably not putting me into full withdraw when finished .... but enough of a tease to be a problem somehow.  Its awfully hard to get responsible use after you have had an addiction.................good luck with the accupuncture - let us know what you think about it .. I am interested .....
