Vicoden and a dirty UA

Can Vicoden show up as traces of Morphine in a UA? Son had a UA that came back dirty with traces of morphine showing up. He was on Vicoden for a broken bone a while before and swears upside down and sideways he had not taken anything other than the Vicoden. What else would show up as Morphine? Where can we find info on this? Am I being strung alone or does this have any merit?

Hello it sounds like there using this to get rid of your son. It probably doesn't have anything to do with this test.
Please remember this even though he is taking Vicodin (hydrocodone) if he takes really small amounts of it his body will turn that into Morphine.
So the test results would make sense if he is taking small doses of Vicodin.
Sorry your going through this if your son is on doctors orders and has documentation and a legit script he cannot be fired for it.
Did your son take his script and doctors written orders into his employer?

If need be...get a lawyer-it sounds like a witch hunt. Any responsible drug testing agency would have had your son fill out a questionaire as to if he has had poppy seed muffins etc. any prescription drugs. etc. Don't go in there apologizing.....Go in there pissed off. Call a civil rights attorney....like I said...this is a witch hunt and if he wasn't asked the above questions no court in the land would take this case. If he is 'kicked out' sue the sh*t out of the school. Don't stand for this injustice!!
Don't back down on this one...

Thanks Greatgreebo, I have been reading the poppy seed info since you posted that..I had forgotten all about that. Son is 17 and was given a ua upon arrival at his school. His grandmother had just sent him a poppy seed loaf and our family loves poppy seed muffins..hmmmm..he was told the allowable limit is 2,000 ng and he tested at 7,000 ng...my understanding is this is trace amounts. I asked if he was check for track marks and they said "yes and none were found". They said "there are many other ways to get morphine in your system...like a tar (?) and to take it orally. No other drugs showed up ( so I think I can mark off him smoking pot laced with something). We have to talk to the school on Monday to hear if he is officially kicked out or not.

the metabolites from the two are similar. If you trust your son and he hasn't had any weird mood/life style changes then perhaps you should believe him. How old is he? why did he have a UA? why didn't he tell them that he had been on vicodin for the broken leg? how long ago did he take the last vicoden. If it was 3 weeks ago and he still has metabolites in his system then something is off.....
does he eat poppy seed muffins? Google your questions on the internet. There is lots of info out there if you look
