What is the best way to taper off of norco's?

I have been on 10/325 norco's for 1 year. I do not abuse them. I want to taper off of them very slowly. I'm thinking of going from 4 a day to 3 for two weeks then 2 for two weeks so on and so on till 1/2 a pill a day. I was in a car accident 18 years ago and broke and dislocated both my hips and my back. Just in the last few years i have been having pain in my hips that effect my job. Up and down ladders and crawling in crawl spaces. I am 40 and was told that I'm to young for a hip replacement. I will still need to take pain meds but want to make sure that i can come off of the after a couple of month at a time. The worst part in my mind is that my quality of life in 10/15 years will suck do to my injurys. My golden years will most likely be in in a wheelchair. I have a high tolerance to pain but can not do my job as I can while on the meds. My doctor told me that I need to start considering a new career which is hard to find something that pays $50,000+ a year to start.

I want to get my tolerance down and stop for a week or so to make sure I can when I need to for good.

Hi there- I think your plan sounds perfect. Dropping small amounts of your dose over an extended period of time is the way it's done...

Try not to project too much into the future. Concentrate on right now and what you're still able to do. Just one thing at a time...

Are you wanting to stop the pills to get your tolerance down?
