What type of therapy?

So I'm looking into someone professional. What is my best option, addiction specialist( phycatrist) or physiologist? Or outpatient program? That will b difficult as it requires 3 hrs a day 4 days a week. Can't with kids and work. Thoughts?

To done withpills,
When you made an appt, was it strictly for addiction? They didn't ask me when I made appt.

Mine is a regular counselor with experience with addictions.  And several other specialties. Will that be enough? I hope. How did u find an out patient center, how many days a week, ?

I am currently in outpatient therapy or the technical term "outpatient substance abuse treatment". There are no meds involved, only counseling. I had a preliminary appt and based on my answers, I was scheduled for group and individual therapy. I was honest with them, because it really only hurts me to lie. Just tell them the truth; they are not there to judge but instead to help.

So I have an appt tomorrow. What do I say? How do I begin. So nervous. It's with a phycologist- that deals with several issues, addiction being one of them. Deals with depression, etc as well. What the heck do I say???????

You really cant go wrong with any of them.  I researched physiologist in the area and called a few up, they asked me if i was dealing with something in particular, so i told them addiction from opiates and they lead me to the counselor.  I would rather a doc because i am fortunate to have it covered under insurance but i did get a counselor and i am just working with that for now.  Girl, i get you on the mental help, that's why i go.  How many days clean are you?

I'm confused. So any therapist , counselor or phycologist that helps with addiction is better than a addictionologist? I've already detoxed. Just need mental help.

Well congratulations on seeking help!!!!  Im 37 days clean and just went to my second visit to a counselor that specializes in addiction. I personally did not like the addictionoligist because they were pushing sub and other meds on me after i said NO, but i probably just had a bad experience. It took me awhile and allot of convincing from Vicki and Imdonenomore to get my butt for some sort of aftercare, so i am feeling pretty good about it but still hate it all at the same time. I hate all the emotions that come up and the reason behind it all, so for me it's a challenge, but i do know it's something that i need to do in order to stay clean. So whatever option you chose, i think you will do just great! Best of luck to you....Dane
