Thanks for the post. This is my second clean Fathers Day. And it's the best one yet. I missed so many others - even when I was there I wasn't there. But my kids understand and forgive. A great time to reflect.  
And yes, as Pj said, anyone who has children and is using, stop putting your kids second to your DOC. It is foolish, hurtful, and you only have massive guilt and regret ahead of you if it continues.

PS - just had my 20 year old daughter walk in and give me a hug & wish me Happy Fathers Day. I almost started crying. Timing is everything.

This is the first clean Father's Day I've had since my first child, 11 years old. There are no words to express what I have gained. Love, respect, honesty all have a new meaning and power. My last dose of methadone was June 27, 2012. The kids joke about me flopping like a fish with my eyes rolling back in my head. They express the relief of not knowing if I'll  need CPR any minute. The hardest days, those emotional tornados, are worth every bit of effort and pain. The love I can feel, the affection touches me, the hugs and kisses are more beautiful than anything. It is nice to be a father today, I am finally present and my true self. I would do anything to stay alive and in my families life. I have to prove that to myself on a regular basis, so far so good. Happy Father's Day, This was the day my whole life has been leading up to, and I love it.
