MS Contin withdrawal

Hello Everyone. I am new to this site and forum or any forum for that matter. I have been taking ms contin 960mgs per day for 8 years .Due to one thing or another (dishonesty to my family mainly) I have had to make the decision to stop. I have managed to uncomfortably lower my intake to 300mgs per day and I cant stop now. I do not have the support of a single soul. Not even a family member. But that's my own doing. I can manage my pain without these tablets but im dreading the withdrawals. I know what I have to do but would truly appreciate any words of advice or encouragement. Thank you all so much for reading.
Longroad.

Hi Smuggler, I do agree with Superand21. I was on the other opiates in the 90s and had a w/d form them. They were a lot better then when I choose f to go get the Methadone prescribe. Both those meds are very, very syntactic and take a long ash time to detox. I will never say how long It took me because I was a also snorting the adderall that I brought of the streets and taking a benzo at night to come down. So going c/t from those 3 and my age played a lot in my recovery. I have read a lot of success stories on here about the subs but I did not want to go that route. We each have our options on this site. I am just glad to be alive today and the hardest is staying clean. Support is a must. Are you planning on going to any meetings?? Hang in and stay strong. Time is the Greatest Healer, but this Journey into Recovery was not meant to be walked alone either. I wish you the best..

Hi There!

I'm so sorry that you're facing this on your own but I'm right there with you. This is my 6th day on WD's from opiates. I once had a 120MG Methadone addiction which caused the most horrendous month-long withdrawal of my life. I'll be honest with you about what to expect from your WD. First it's all about physiology, how long you've been taking the meds (8 years), and the amount (300MGs per day). I'm not one who believes in tapering over a long period of time cause lets face it if we had any control over our addictions most of use wouldn't be in this situation. I'm also not one to advise going on Methadone or Suboxone because in my belief (and I've actually done this) I traded one crappy addiction for a worse one. Meth & Sub's have the longest half-life of any opiate and the WD off of those could take upwards of a month or two. I'm sure some people on here will chastise me saying what a lifesaver those two drugs are but it's my opinion and my opinion only.
You are probably looking at about 5-7 days of acute withdrawal which is gonna suck. But a week is a hell of a lot better than being in bed feeling like death for a month or more. WDing is the price we pay for all the crap we've put into our systems over the years abusing opiates. I will promise you this, once your acute stage is over you are going to start feeling infinitely better day after day. You will get a tremendous bounce to your self-esteem, your libido will go through the ROOF, you will have a life you only dreamed of.
I've done this without anyone knowing and without any support because that's the way I felt I had to do this. Nobody know's about my addiction except the good people on this forum.
Remember, opiate detox is NOT life-threatening so even though you my feel like you're dying and eventually wish you were, you're not. It's your body flushing out all the poison you've been feeding it and healing miraculously. Shoot me a message if you need any further support, there are a ton of good people on here and many of us are on the same boat as you. This had been MY support, this forum and it's helped tremendously towards my recover. 6 days clean today and I'm starting to feel amazing, as if I was reborn. Good luck and please stay in touch, you CAN do this!

Hi Vic, Thank you so much for your honest response. I am glad someone has offered some form of support and I truly appreciate that. I have actually put myself on daily pick ups from the pharmacy but I know the point has to come soon where I wont be doing that as I wont be taking them. Its not that far away and I am doing my very best to prepare for that. Your advice is invaluable and I cant thank you enough. I will be posting regularly and certainly listening to everyone who can help. God bless you and my thoughts are with you also.
