is this addiction and abuse?

my husband has been taking vicodin for about 7 years now.  He says he only takes about 3 or 4 a day. I have been researching vic. Abuse and some people take 30/100. Would his habbit be considered abuse and addiction?

This is my first post but I've been taking opiates (vic and perc) for about 10 years now and quit cold turkey many times for months at a time. I didn't think it was that big of a deal to quit until I reached 3 or 4 a day. The physical addiction sneaks up on you. I'm in the process of trying to cut back but I feel I'm not taking them right now to get high but to feel normal. Maybe your husband is at that point. I'd say have him test himself by stopping for a couple days and see what happens but prepare for an grumpy short tempered and lazy person once the withdrawals start. But who knows some people are stronger then others and he may have no problems. Good luck either way!!

I agree with Tramhater, it would depend on his motives.  If he is taking them for the high don't expect him to tell you so.  On the other hand, if that's all he's taking, I would think that after 7 years there wouldn't be much of a high anymore.

That would depend on his behavior.  Is he in pain?  Does he just take it to get high?  I know that he is at least dependent on it, but the behavior is more important in knowing if he is addicted.
