40 HOURS - Big Fight with DH

Talk about highs & lows. I have 40 hours clean - big whoop. Had a big fight with DH - who went back to bed. He has been such a trooper the last 3 weeks and I am being a total beotch.

Not being able to walk or move is so frustrating.

I sent an email to my PCP - I told her I think I have depression - just great!! One more thing to deal with.

How do you deal with depression????

Thanks all - DH got up & made me waffles. I feel so bad for all the tears & stuff - he really has been a rock.

DH went to the CVS (that is our pharmacy here in CA) and got some SamE - & some 5htp.

I better go read the labels. It is looking like I will see 48 hours - 2 days - today!!

I asked you a question and then I was called away...sorry!

First, I'd skip the trazodone and head toward natural interventions. Just be careful mixing certain supplements. Always read the labels because some shouldn't be taken together. Trazadone is often prescribed for major depression and/or insomnia. You wouldn't want to take it with SamE due to the chemical interaction...

You need to talk all of this over with your PCP so you can get the best possible treatment right now.  I don't remember what your surgery was for but it's a fact that folks often get depressed after any type of ortho injury.

Also, you have a history of depression right?  So combine that with menopause and there go your brain chemicals! Try to understand what's happening here and treat yourself accordingly.  Right now what you're going through will just be for a short time, in the scheme of things, but I do understand your frustration.

Give the SamE a try and really try to distract yourself from dwelling on the limitations you have right now.  Use the forum and just keep pushing through!

Hey there, sorry to hear of your troubles!

Menopause most definitely will cause changes in your mood, including symptoms of depression, anxiety.  I agree with spider that taking the Trazadone in a knee jerk reactive kind of way isn't an answer.  I know you're feeling poorly and are just looking for an answer, but I think this is something best approached by dealing with the most likely cause, which would be the menopause.

Starting with dietary and lifestyle changes is a good idea, and maybe consult with a naturopath, who can recommend the most appropriate supplements.  I know it's tough, but remember that this may take some time, be patient with yourself.  You won't see improvements overnight.   If those things don't make a big difference, then I would recommend having another pow wow with your doc to discuss appropriate treatment options, which may or may not include an antidepressant.

Good luck, hope you get to feeling better soon!

I have heard alot of people say Sam e works really well for depression. St. John's wort is also natural that helps with depression. Melatonin helps with sleep; sorry if I misunderstood your post.  Trazadone is a sleep aid and mild antidepressant, so I thought you may need help with sleep too.

My dr. put me on Trazadone for sleep; I took it for a couple of weeks and then stopped.  It gave me headaches and made me dizzy when I woke up.  Have you tried melatonin?  It has been more helpful and it's natural so no side effects.
I think we all get depressed when we stop the pills.  We have to give our bodies and brains time to heal.  The dreaded word-time.
Good luck and I hope you feel better; stay strong :)

Hi hon, crap, have you taken trazadone before?   Did you read up on it?  It takes like two weeks........are you sure you want to go that route??  You have to wean off these when you decide to stop girl.   Have you considered diet change......I'm dealing with that right now.........getting clean has caused me to neglect my fuel choices and I'm paying for it right now!  I'm trying to get back to my macrobiotic way of eating.....if you can do that......you can eliminate most uncomfortable body and mind illness manifestations.   From diabetes to fibro to depression to anxiety to insomnia and so on!

I just want you to make informed decisions before you start freaking and looking for another pill to get your quick fix which if works, will only be a bandaid.  .....F*ck!, just get mad if nothing else works for now and go beat something up!

Prayers out my friend. Hugs

Yesterday I had a doctors appt & I had to clean up - dress - get in the truck - then go see him. He took out 2 stitches - said I was healing great and told me just a few more days of no walking - keeping it elevated.

I cried all the way home. DH even stopped for a coffee & a scone - didn't help.

That visit took all the energy I had. I was in bed at 4 PM and stayed there.

I have a script for Trazodone - which I got last year for insomnia. It is for depression too. I took 1 last night - haven't taken them in months - do you know how long it takes to reach a therapeutic level???

Thanks!
