Yuck This Is The Worst

I'm going through fast tapering. I don't know how many of you are familiar with me as of yet, I just signed up for this account yesterday, but I have gotten a lot of feedback form the community. I ususally take 10-12 7.5mg vics daily. I am trying taper myself down to avoid withdrawl symptoms although I know I will still get them. And I am tapering very quickly, so I know they will be bad. I want to go c/t but I have to keep going to work and school, so I am trying to do the tapering to help curb the pain as much as I can. Yesterday I took 7.5, today I want to do at least 1 less. I've already had 4. God help me. Advice? Strength for me? Anyone??

I have only limited experience with vics, cause see, my doctor moved me onto the "non-addictive, synthetic opiate/analgesic" called tramadol, which I became addicted/dependant on for six years.   I would like to share what I learned about myself as I worked to come  off my DOC a year ago.

I sincerely believe that a nice slow taper would be less awful in theory...only addicts like me can't manage a taper.   Even if people like me give up our pills for a loved one to hold, we know which strings to pull to guilt them into giving us what we think we need.

I was a "pill counter".   I also always had the best intentions of tapering slowly...except that I constantly found myself borrowing from tomorrow's pills to take today.   So while in theory a nice s l o w taper may be easier than stopping cold turkey, addicts like me are incapable of staying on any constant does, let alone reducing that dose effectively.

I'm with bob when he said, "My taper plans usually started with a few promises to myself that I would break by my next dose."

If you think you can manage a slow taper, write down whatever schedule you think you want to achieve.  But if you begin to borrow tomorrows pills for today, if you find yourself breaking promises to yourself day after day, I think you will have your answer soon enough.

You can beat this however, if you prepare yourself for the WAR of your life.  No amount of effort short of 200% will suffice.

Courage, Strength and love,  fred

Tapering is hard for an addict..I did a fast 10 day taper til I had time off work..cheated the whole time but stuck to my QUIT day..flushed all leftovers and told my DR "NO MORE"  Told my dealer I lost my job...I was a 100 mg hydro user and took 70 mgs the day before QUIT day...guess I thought I had to blow it out or sumpin!

I had tried to taper with pills in my possesion and would just take more due to the stress of tryiong to take less!  If u find u r feeling worse tapering..then just LET GO...CT..ur dose is do-able..perhaps u will taper without difficulty..i hope so

Hydro 5 mg, 7.5 mg and 10 mg all have 500 mgs of tylenol in them as a rule/acetomionophen...12 daily of  7.5 pills is 6000 mgs of tylenol per day...400 mgs is the max tylenol dose considered safe for the liver

be safe and keep posting..hang tight

Hey Colleen,

The whole reason for tapering is to reduce the intake very slowly and gradually so that you barely feel the withdrawal symptoms during the reduction process. Then your dosage is so low at the end when you stop, the discomfort is minimal.

The gist of many of our posts is that you are ALREADY feeling the symptoms.  Your new plan extends your "taper" by several weeks which is still way too fast to be much of a positive effect.

Please do not take this the wrong way but you have already not been able to stick to your original taper plan as the going got rough.  Not judging here, I would have blown mine SOONER likely, but I guess my point is, I highly doubt ol' Colleen can do this taper on her own.  Not because you are weak, because you are an addict, like the rest of us here.

My advice would be to spend those few hundred dollars on a ticket to get your boyfriend to come stay with you.  It sounds like he understands and is supportive of your decision.  You could set aside 4 or 5 days and just do it Colleen, with him at your side.  This would be a great help for you.

Again, trying to help and make you understand you aren't really getting the benefits of tapering by doing it so quickly.   Wishing you the best with this Colleen and very happy for your decision to get your life back.

Okay so I stayed at the same dose I had yesterday roughly. I took 8 today and 7.5 yesterday. I think I will do the same tomorrow. Which means Ill have 2 left. Which means I'll have to re-up if I'm going to keep tapering. Everytime I score I feel like "this will be the last time" but ok so then starting on sunday I'll go to 6/day until Thursay. Then Thurs-Sun Ill do 5, then I'm gona cut down to 3 til Thurs again and then by Sunday again I want to be down to 1. Then none. So that gives me a couple weeks to adjust. Ill need to come up with a fre hundred dollars to keep this steady tapering up but finding money for drugs has never reallly been as issue for me.

I also decided to tell my long term boyfriend of two years. He knows I've struggle with opiate addiction in the past but didnt know I was again and certainly not how badly. He lives 8 hours away currently because of his job which really ***** at this time because he's so supportive and loving and I know he would help me taper fairly. So I guess I just need to rely on ol' Colleen (Thats my name btw). He told me today that he looked up the Thomas Recepie for me and got all the ingredients (he even has a script to ambian and to benzos to help with the insimnia). I'll see how I do with the taper but at some point I might just cut if off and go cold turkey, esp with all this good advice and all the good natural remedies my man got for me. I don't feel quite so powerless anymore. I can do this.

YOU SHOULD ONLY CUT DOWN YOUR DOSE EVERY THREE DAYS!
i just tapered myself.  you have to give your body time to catch up to the smaller dose or else tapering is pointless.  this way your body has time to "learn" it does not need as much vicodin.  good luck!

I agree with jsntime that you are tapering way to fast. From what I have read, you want the least amount of w/d's that you can go through? well slow it down a lil bit you know stick with one amount for a few days heck maybe even a week then just take a small amount out, then adjust to that new dose. You can do this, the other side is so much better...kinda like watching a movie in the theatres waaaay better then at home. =) stay positive and never lose hope. peace

Two comments -

Your "taper" is constructed to be as much a form of controlled torture as anything else the way that you are attempting it.

Lauriea - - -  Thats a cute comment. Not correct, but cute. You still have a few substances to check out before we let you judge, though.  And the "worse withdrawal" that you can go through?  Its the one that you are going through currently.   Even though yours is a very common observation among members......

I've followed a few of your posts now.  Your taper is not really a taper because it is occurring so quickly.  What you are doing now is not much worse than c/t except it will last longer.

Tapering is only effective if done very slowly and this is impossible for most addicts (like me) to do alone.  My taper plans usually started with a few promises to myself that I would break by my next dose.

Be honest with yourself and if you don't have the will-power and/or a few months minimum to get this taper done right, then why don't you flush them and jump now?

You probably think that it would get so much worse without your current taper but truthfully, I think you're already feeling it and have nothing to lose but a few days less suffering as it will be over faster.

Very happy for your decision to stop and pulling for you,

bob

You hang in there! The withdrawal symptoms WILL go away! Nothing could be worse than coming off the drug that I am addicted to. It is 100 times worse than vicodins! It is called "Ultram" (Tramadol). In my opinion, the worst prescription to come off of. You hang in there and be strong!

Your doing awesome so you've had four and that leaves you two and a half more if you want to drop one a day!! Try to go as long as you can between now and teh next one that will make the night a little better. Then maybe take a day or two and stay at 6 let your body adjust and then drop another two and then adjust. You will be ok Today is day 6 I think for me I still have 2 left to stop takign but I woke up today and felt awesome!!! Now I'm gonna let those two ride a few days enjoy the great feeling between wakeup and  about 5pm is when I take one. Then I am going to try and drop the 5oclock one I just want a minut to feel ok and tehn I'll DT of that one. and then hopefully be just about home free!! You totally can do it. Maybe slow down a little your doing fab!!

Glad to hear you want to get off these now, you won't regret it. Tapering can be so tough and I don't think I would have the willpower to do it. Do you have anyone that can hold them for you to help with the taper? Since you are new here, i don't know your story yet, just wondering how you started on them? Just wanted to wish you luck. How long has your taper been going now? Sorry for the questions, just trying to get more info on your use. Good luck, you will get a lot of great advice here.
