addicitve personality

i have been taking narcotics for awhile street drugs before and now pills i like the energy and seemingly relaxed feeling i get when i take percs but i hav friends who are terribly addicted i mean that is all they live for and i am afraid of getting hooked and getting to the point that i have to have them in order to function i dont feel that i am hooked now but i do not want to get hooked on anything else maybe i should just totally stop taking them all together but i guess i feel that i need something to help get me through the day right now it seems that my routine is getting up and taking a perc then having a cocktail (drink) then going on about my day probably not good at all right?

I used to only drink friday and saturday nights.  Then I used to only drink thurs, fri, sat nights.  Eventually I added sunday.  After doing that for a bit I drank each night.  That went on for a while until one day I started drinking on my way home from work and continued through the nights till I went to bed.  I did that regularly and then I didn't have to go to work anymore so I was then able to drink in the morning and all throughout the day.  I used to have to not drink so I could see family and friends but I eventually pushed them out of my life and I was once again able to drink whenever I wanted to.  After a while it was just me and the booze.  NO loving wife, NO happy marriage, NO friends to hang out with, NO family that wanted to see me, NO fishing.

The point is that our disease is progressive and fatal.  When we are actively using it doesn't get better.  The thing we think we need to live becomes the thing that ultimately kills us.  At some point in time our drug of choice stops working for us.  Except in stead of stopping and changing we do more of that DOC.  Some of us never "get it" and we die miserable and often lonely deaths.  Some of us "get it" often after it is too late to recover from the damage our addiction has created.  Many of us however are blessed to be shown a way that works.  A way of living where we don't need to have that drink or pill or whatever it is we think we need.  I ask myself this question on a regular basis:  "Am I willing to do whatever it takes to be clean and sober today?"  It is never too early to start recovering.  Sometimes jowever it can be too late.  Please make the healthy choice.  God Bless!!!

How long have you been taking them and how much a day? Your taking them for euphoria and how they make you feel and that is signs of an addict, plus you say your were using street drugs before. Your also comparing how much your friends use and it sounds like your justifying your use, cause your not as bad as them YET. Please get off now while you still can, you will save yourself a lot of pain.

Also hanging around those that use is a major trigger and so hard to stay clean that way, myself I could not stay clean around my old friends that use. Sometimes we have to make changes to stay off the drugs.

Welcom to the forum, you will find a lot of support here. Best of luck and please be careful.

If you're getting up and taking a pill and having a drink, that's not good.  If you feel as though you NEED it, that's a problem.

I think you know what to do here...

Good luck!
